Christian,

Thanks to you Silvan (and everyone else involved) for your hard work on this! And a belated thanks for everything else you have been involved in over the years!

Robert

Gang: The newest copy is Nov 4, 2008, so if you haven't grabbed a copy in the last 24 (or less) hours, I would check out netlabs again!

smPlayer has been updated on Jan 23, 2009 - same link as above. Same version number, so I presume it is only fixes or enabled functionality that did not make it into the earlier release(s).

yes it only fixed 2 small bugs when playing music files only.

please support the Qt4 project, so i will be able to produce a new smplayer with the latest source.
i plan to do a development snapshot with Qt4 beta soon.

Hi Silvan

A quick bit of feedback on the latest smplayer.

Not as good as the previous build (qt4beta1) as:-

Playback is far more jerky - when it happens.

Playback window/area does not resize to the size of vid clips being played.

Too often video disappears and only audio playback happens.

The Preferences, Keyboard and Mouse, Keyboard page has a display problem: Every other line is Black with just an icon showing under the Description column.

The beta1 build could be a little jerky during playback compared to the last qt3 build but does not have the other problems.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

the color problem is already fixed in a newer Qt. i will refresh the dlls within some days.

the other ptoblems you mention i don't see. this qt build is a lot faster in general
do you use uniaud?
did you try with the smplayer log turned off? it's in the properties advanced section

Hi Silvan

I did have both mplayer and smplayer checked for log output - presumably that is to screen as there does not appear to be any related log files anywhere on my drive?

No great difference with the above unchecked I'm sorry to report: slow to start and jerky playback on all vids tested to date - the ecs "promo" vid clip  \mmos2\movies\ecs.mpg is a good short example.

Yes, using a vaguely working uniaud - what other audio drivers are there for modern hardware?

I guess it is possible that something on my system needs a little tweaking to get this build of smplayer working better...

Pete

Hi Silvan

Changing from os2apic.psd to acpi.psd (v3.14) certainly improves playback; much less jerky and faster to start.

Hi Silvan

My previous post was incorrect - took a while but I've just realised that I had replaced the beta2 build with beta1 build.

I've just retested the beta2 build and my previous post about jerky playback, video and/or audio disappearing still stands - beta2 is unusable here and I have again reverted to beta1.

Hopefully beta3 will work...

hmm what does beta1 and beta2 mean exactly. using the same qt dll and only different smplayer? or also backleveling qt dll.

as i can't think as a change i did in smplayer which could slow anything down.

Pete

Hi diver

beta1 is a complete package - dll files included.

beta2 is in 2 packages, smplayer and qt dll files.

Replacing beta2 with beta1 means deleting the contents of the smplayer directory and unzipping beta1 into the now empty smplayer directory.

Of possible further interest: beta2 interface sometimes behaves oddly when opening a vid using the Open, File option ; the interface jumps around and some of the menu bar ends up duplicated at the bottom of the screen but inverted (upside down). This does not happen every time but maybe 3 in 7 instances.

When beta2 starts playing a vid clip the video playback disappears after 5 jerky seconds of playback; audio then becomes smoother.

Well, my best guess is that qt4 still needs a bit/lot of work to make it usable.

Pete
