Photo Filtre with Odin

A friend at the IT university in Gothenburg recommended Photo Filtre as a good free image processing application. Well I decided to try if it works with Odin. Installation was flawless and it starts up without choking. I haven't had time to try it out but some functions I tried worked! Try it out for yourself.

UPDATE: Tried around a little more. All functions I've tried work...very well. Menus are a little "shaky" when rolling out, that seems to be the only issue so far. Supports many formats, youn can manipulate in many ways, there are eg quite a lot of filters. Layers are not supported. Opening/saving *.bmp doesn't work - result is a black picture. Other formats like gif, tif, png, jpg works well, possibly all the others too - haven't tried.

Forgot the link, sorry  http://www.snapfiles.com/get/photofiltre.html

Hi Melf

I installed Photo Filtre using ar5os2.exe but cannot get the app to run using that environment.

It does startup and run fairly well using pe.exe from an oldish Odin - are there any recent builds? - with the same "shaky" menu bar you mention. The dropdown menus seem fine though.

The app should play with Win BMPs but not OS/2 BMPs. I get an error message when trying to open an OS/2 BMP - and the app simply exits if I try to open a Win BMP. Something not quite right somewhere...

Works with jpg and png so far; the functions I have tried (only a few) all seem to work fine but I have not tried printing yet - no photopaper handy at the moment.

Seems like a capable little app that could save me firing up VPC to run Photoshop for the occasional photo touchup.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention  :-)

Hi Pete,
AFAIK the latest odin pack is named  "odin-20060817-xp.zip" . About printing, for my part i doesn't work, my printer is in a local network and is not regocnized.

Hi Pete,

Using the same Odin build as Melf without problems (in limited testing). I will try printing when I get a chance and let you know if or how that works.

Hi All

I found a slightly later Odin package than that mentioned by Melf and Robert which seems to work at least as well as the package I was using
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/odin/Daily/odin32bin-20060825-release-xp.zip

No change in the "shaky" menu bar though...

Regards

Pete

Yeah... I forgot to mention that... I too get the shaky menu bars. Maybe some weird redraw call for a menu animation that isnt supported in the OS/2 API calls being used? If so, my guess is other than wasting a couple CPU resources for a half second, it shouldnt be an issue.

As for printing, no luck...

Hitting print produces a dialog box that says:
Erreur systeme. Code: 1004
Invalid flags.

(OK)

Hitting OK gives me the print dialog, with no printer selection options, and hitting "Setup..." brings back the same error.

Trying to print tells me:
Warning
The width must lie between 1.00 and 0.00!

Setting the width to 1.00 sets the height to 10000.00, but regardless of the settings in those boxes, I get the same warning about the width.

Otherwise no other showstoppers. And I prefer to print via PMView anyway.

Robert
