100% CPU load on www.os2world.com ?

Hi folks,

not sure if it's only me, but since about 2 days I experience a 100% CPU load
situation when visiting OS/2 World pages with a FF of the 2.x series. Usually
this lasts for about 15 - 20 seconds after each page change, which makes it
pretty hard to look around here...

Raiko

I have the same problem with SM 1.1.16

melf

just confirming. Same proble also here and also using windows and explorer.

Hi guys,

I have both a good news and a bad news.
The good news is: I can't confirm this either on FFx 2, SM (on ecS) nor on IE7 / FFx3 (on XP).
I have no clue what may cause this... are you logged-in or logged-out? Does that matter?

Now for the bad news.
I wanted to see if there is perhaps something woring with the pages served... and I lloked for te pagesource.
HOLY SHIT!!
Each and every page served by os2world.com is compromised!! Please take a look at the page source (View -> Page Source) and go straight to the bottom: Can you see that immense <form> element?
Since I doubt that os2world.com is selling Cialis etc. - can someone here have a look, please?

Once that is solved, let us see what other problems are solved as well. ;)
Cheers,
Thomas

Same problem here, the official FF 3.5.3 and FF 3.5.2-media from netlabs gives me 100% on cpu.

Hi all,

seems that the fishy <form> tag (which is REALLY huge) gives problems to the eCS-flavor ob Mozilla browsers?
(Have no problems on the "evil" platform...)

Evil platform OK here (IE6), Epiphany (Debian) also OK. Perhaps, it's a problem of FF - comming clear, I have not tried FF because I prefer responsive apps from the big ones even if they are less mighty.

I had the same problems. However, they seem to be gone now. The source code doesn't show anything suspicious. Did you change something?

Hi,

I can approve that what I saw is now gone from the source view.
(BTW, I have a screenshot of that ...just in case nobody believes me :-P )

Regarding "did you change something":
I hope so. ;) I mailed Kim about that issue around noon and he immediately forwarded it to Tommy. Seems like he's already fixed it (at least for that strange <form> thing to be removed). By the way - I pasted the entire <form> tag into a text file to see how large it is. ~580K. Whoops. I must admit that I understand how that could impact on a web browser engine (even if it was non-display'ed). However it would mean that eCS-based browsers have a problem with this... (since on other platforms it appears to be not an issue).

Also, I still don't understand why I did not have these problems with my SeaMonkey 1.1.6 (IIRC) on eCS back home. I went to os2world.com on Friday, Saturday and Sunday without issues... strange...

Anyway:
Did I get you correctly, that the CPU usage is back to normal now? Can others also confirm this?

Regards,
Thomas

Yes, CPU usage is normal now, using SM 1.1.16

rudi

Everything is fine again. Thanks !

Andi

On sunday my SM1.1.x crashes whenever 4 or 5 tabs are open. The browser was inresponsive and all 2 cores are at 100%. Total system memory usage goes beyond 1.1GB and then SM silently closes itself.

FF, whichever comes with eCS2.0rc2, was able to start loading about 7-8 tabs. Total memory usage was about 1.45GB as FF crashes too.

when you say "4 or 5 tabs" or "7-8 tabs" in these browsers, does that mean tabs with contents from os2world.com, or "in general"? And... is there a change with the current pages from os2world.com (ie less/no crashes) ?

Thanks,
Thomas

About the "evil" platform , as I said earlier I also tried os2world.com with Windows (XP). Firefox showed the same behaviour and Explorer, in fact turned itself off (crashed). So this was not an only OS/2 problem.

oops, me stupid. I should have read more carefully... you are right, you mentioned earlier that this also affects the evil platform and FFx. But ??? why didn't I experience that, heck... this could have saved us time. Phew, anyway... glad it was solved.

Thomas
