How do I use? Windows Remote Desktop in Warp 4.52

I've heard OS/2 has something like the "Remote Desktop" thing in Windows, so I could use my (smaller, lighter) OS/2 ThinkPad as a terminal to access my (larger, less portable, but more up to date) Windows 2K/ME ThinkPad. How do I use it? I'd like to connect through the parallel port (faster) when I'm at home, but have the option of using the modem when I'm not. Is this possible?

Hallo,

look at Hobbes. There are some older OS/2 Port of of the RDP Client.

An alternative might be the use of an JAVA Client.

The are RDP JAVA Client for JAVA 1.4.1    Search via google.

You need a LAN connection between the two. If you want to use Remote Desktop on the Windows machine, you need a port of rdesktop for OS/2. There is a port that uses SDL (http://glebk.newmail.ru/rdesktop/rdesktop-1.5.0-gcc-SDL-a2.zip)

Hallo Christian,

Actually, eCS comes with the PMVNC server (works well). The client can be a web browser, that is JAVA enabled (I don't use that). A better option for an OS/2 client is in:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/apps/internet/misc/pmvnc104_ow.zip

The server, and client, both work fine with windows, when windows uses the free VNC server available from:
http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1/winvnc.html
which also includes a client.

This does work best, when you use it with a gigabit LAN connection, but is more than acceptable with a 100 Mbit connection. It operates over TCP/IP, so it can also operate over the internet, IF you can access your machine through the internet (very often, that will be blocked by your ISP). It *may* be possible to get it to work through a serial port, by using the serial port internet support, but I wouldn't want to try it. Of course, the internet (especially modem connected internet), will be very slow, but there are some fine tuning options that may help. I haven't tried it, but you can also add a secure link, by using STunnel from:

I've run it.  I built an older 1.3 version that is also on hobbes but it requires xfree86 though can be run through hoblink to put it on the desktop.  IIRC, his version did not handle the copy and paste base machine and the RDPd machine.  Mine handles the copy and paste but has some display redraw issues.  There is an older version also on hobbes that requires xfree86, has no display issues but doesn't handle copy and paste.  The redraw issues on mine just requires that a redraw be forced at times.  As I recall, the main problem I had was the lack of copy and paste but there might have been some other small issues but it worked reasonably well.
