My system is faily old (amd athlon xp 1800 on a asus motherboard) in which I have never had problems installing eCS, sound , network drivers all work etc...

This all changed with eCS silver release which I decided to try before receiving the GA.

The problem is once the cd loads I have selected the default opcions and the manual opcion but in both circumstances the system shuts down upon selecting F10.
I have also tried with and without ACPI but still the same problem.

Windows Xp works fine, eCS 1.2 & eCS 2.0 beta 1 all run ok,

Any ideas?
I can provide asus motherboard model but as mentioned before never had problems with previous releases or drivers.

any help or ideas will be appreciated.

Hi,

are you booting this from a CD that you got from burning the ISO image on?
In this case - could it be that there is something corrupted on that CD?
(Try to use a different boot media if possible)

Just guessing, actually no clue what could cause this.

Hope this helps,
Thomas

Hi,

the same CD was used to install on my laptop and all when ok therefore this is not the problem.
I am totally lost.

Where can I get hold off earlier RC's, I would like to try RC6 to see if the same happens.

Hi Quique

Seems a bit of a strange problem...

When the CD 1st boots can you select and boot to the "pre boot menu" to set your own boot options?

If you can get that far try setting the danis506.add driver (SATA/ATA/IDE) to Compatibility mode; if you cannot get that far do you have an alternative CD/DVD drive you can use for the install?

Regards

Pete

Hi,

i get to the pre-boot menu and have tried various setup's (panorama, snap, acpi etc...) but have always left the Dani drive as appears. Will try compatible mode as you mention tonight.

It seems your computer behaviour is similar to mine. It hangs just after loading DANIS506... it seems it hangs when loading OS2LVM.
Your hard-disk is SATA or IDE?

Have you already checked the EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE setting in your config.sys? My ancient Athlon 2000 CPU on a Asus V800 mainboard boots only with that setting removed or set to FALSE. It was added since some of the latest RCs.

I selected on eCS Boot Menu to edit config.sys and had not found EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE there.
But I forced EARLYMEMINIT=FALSE... and no luck. Same result. Makes no difference.
BTW, on my OS/2 Warp 4.52 config I use EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE and everything works
fine.

But thanks for the insight. :)

thks but the problem was a usb hub (by Trust) which when connected caused this problem when booting.
all works ok when OS has booted and then connected.

strange.....but never the less works
