Since the events on Japan, I had contacted two OS/2 users I know from the community to see their status.
Achain (OS2.jp) and Ken Kinoshita (Prettypop software).

Both are fine.

Ken told me the he was on the 24th floor in Tokyo and was the longer earthquake he ever experience. He had to stay till next morning because trains were stopped but he is fine right now at his home.

Achai is fine too and haven't hear any bad news from OS/2 users in Japan. Because many power plants are down some electrical saving has to be done and it is possible going to affect the OS2.jp server. He will notify any news on twitter http://twitter.com/os2jp posting the tweets as with @os2jp.

On Facebook, Herwig Bauernfeind told that Alex Taylor (http://users.socis.ca/~ataylo00/index.html) is on Japan. He had posted on his webpage that he is alright too.

"Thanks to everyone who has expressed their concerns regarding the major earthquake here in Japan on Friday afternoon. For the record, I suffered nothing worse than some upended furniture and a few broken dishes (my town is well inland and up in the mountains). Power was out for around 24 hours after the quake, but it's now been restored, and things are slowly returning to normal. As regards the problems with the nuclear station on the coast, I'm (currently) well outside the affected zone, but I'll continue to keep an eye on it.

Good to hear that Alex Taylor and others are ok

QuoteI wish the best for the families affected by this tragic event.

As do I and many others.

Everyone that I personally know in Japan is ok, though it took a while to find out about some of them. Makes me feel helpless seeing such devastation and being unable to help.

It's a slow process but the recovery has started.

Cheers

Jep, I would have thought the Japanese authorities were the best people to make that judgement, after all they were hit with two atomic bombs and so have first hand knowledge of radiation and its consequences.  The Americans and Europeans are basing their estimates on erroneous data - or dare I say it, no data at all.  The reactors in Japan are not the same type of reactor as Tjernobyl and do not have cores that will burn for months.

Read the articles in the Register to get a better technical view of what is going on.

Most, if not all, of what we see in the press is scare stories to sell the papers and the information from governments is biased to their agenda.
