Silverlight to Moonlight to Blacklight?

http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/default_ns.aspx Microsoft came out with a competitor to Flash called Silverlight. Novell is suppose to create a port of it for Linux called Moonlight. Perhaps if someone ported the Linux version to OS/2-eCS they could call it Blacklight?  ;D Since Novel is creating a Linux version, would the source code be available?  ???

At JavaOne 2007, Sun Microsystems introduced Java FX, of which a current relatively open implementation is being developed: https://openjfx.dev.java.net/.

The membership is open for the development of a compiler (among others): https://openjfx.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectMailingListList;jsessionid=B09DA3E6441827AEF28F69E3E050129C

Becoming a member and participating would allow an OS/2er to provide input on the idiosyncracies of the OS/2 side of Java --and possibly have the committers take those into account in those projects.  The same holds for the Google Web Toolkit http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/ , that you brought up in an older post.

Although Novell provides an Linux distribution that is easier than others to install and maintain, its implementations of MS technology simply defeats the current trend towards a less monopolistic Web, as is evidenced by the recent ISO decision against quick ratification of Pseudo Open Office XML (POOXML) as a(nother) standard.

That peddling of MS technology by Novell appears to be part of the MS strategy of "partnering" with Linux distributors to spread its monopoly into the Open Source side; that strategy, notwithstanding, seems to have been effectively stopped by the GPLv3.  In my opinion, why pursue half open solutions, like POOXML and (morphing)Light if there are more open alternatives   ??? ?

I would encourage those younger generations of OS/2ers --those who disregard the baggage of unproved assumptions of yesteryear-- to become involved in those open projects.  Even if you are not a programmer, becoming exposed to code and pertinent discussions by professionals in those lists, will provide an structure to your thinking prior to taking that first non VB computer programming class.

"Is Microsoft considering support for additional operating systems?

Microsoft is gathering feedback from customers like you on Silverlight and to help determine which platforms should be supported in the future.

I am looking for ways to submit eCS without mentioning OS/2. :)

Are you sure ...?  After they have you, it is necessary an anticompetitive ruling that no U.S.A court has been able (or willing) to enforce.  Only in the EU they apparently have the will* to force MS to let customers off their "consider[ation of] support for additional operating systems..."  which for MS only means their family of alpha operating systems whose "development" is paid by customers.

I doubt MS would create an eCS version but I thought it would be interesting to ask.  8)
