TRAP d Intel DH55PJ

I am looking into finding the latest hardware for eCS2.1. My current build is fine but I am considering building eCS PC's. I got a trap d.
System Specs... Intel DH55PJ / Intel Pentium G6951 / 4GB DDR3-1333 / Intel 320 SSD

Trap d right out of gate. I tried a few settings in the BIOS like single core mode, ACHI, Legacy, Compatible. Boots Linux fine.
I think the issue is the CPU as it is one that Intel released as a software CPU upgrade. The upgrade would unlock additional cache. I do not have any i3. 5 or 7's (LGA1156) lying around to swap.
I created a ticket. Any suggestions?

Hello

Roderick Klein here from Mensys. I have typed this a million times to a lot of people. But the knowledge on these types of system crashes can normally not be found on these forums. Oke I stand corrected, sorry :-) I just see an email coming in from the ticket system of eComStation.

Oke the TRAP you have is a known one. Its a defect in the OEMHLP service in the kernel.

From our eCOmStation bugtracker bug 3093:
This could be seen as a defect in OS2DLR that contains a portion of the OEMHLP code of OS/2. Its blowing because of defect/not properly tested code in the BIOS.
The new ACPI version we will release this year should fix this!

As documented in bug 2981 I wrote:

This WILL fix this issue plus a list of items that is to long to mention :-)
ACPI has made a lot of progress with David working on it.

The new PSD is hopefully released before the 25th of November. We are working on a new public beta that will install a fixed keyboar driver as well. The driver had a defect as well!

This new version will not solve the problem for people this trap.
It will not fix in the *sense* you would need to have computer with a floppy drive to load the new ACPI.PSD to boot from CD. When ACPI version 3.19.11 is released you need to install eCS on a different system and put the ACPI version on the hard disc. Then move the hard disc to the failling system.

A refresh of eCS is of course planned with a new ACPI version included.

Our PSD patches OEMHLP$ service offered by the kernel out in memory. Its the old OEMHLP service in the kernel that fails! Fixing screen01.sys is not a solution. Since any device driver that would call into OEMHLP could cause the same trap.

This seems to be a ""defect"" in more modern BIOS'es.
(end of bug)

These ACPI versions have been released as ACPI 3.19.14/3.19.15.
Version 3.19.16 is in the pipeline.

I got an ASRock H55M-LE, which would be pretty similar to the Intel part

This one can boot from eCS 2.1, but has several problems.

1. eCS does not detect any USB 1.1, so USBUHCD.SYS is not installed. Two instances of USBEHCD.SYS are loaded and USB 2.0 works, but USB keyboard and mouse are flaky without USB 1.1 support.

2. No sound from UniAud. UniMix gives only three parameters to play with -- none of them enable sound.

3. Panorama works OK, but if widescreen is enabled, it no longer syncs with the monitor, and looks bad.

Are you sure that it has USB other than EHCI adapters? I have a lenovo ThinkPad T510, and it has two EHCI adapters, and no others. USB 1.0, and 1.1, work fine when using only the USBEHCD.SYS  driver (two of them). Somehow, the hardware supports the older USB versions. FWIW, I am using the latest drivers as posted at HOBBES:

The USB specs allow a "2.0-only" configuration in case there is an integrated hub that can handle 1.x devices. Some Intel hardware is known to do exactly this. However, the crappy OS/2 USB drivers did not work correctly in this scenario. Lars has implemented some fixes. So using his driver (from Hobbes) will increase the chances for getting this to work...

I'm also using 10.183 drivers, although 10.162 behave the same. The mouse and keyboard work (in legacy mode) through a KVM. They work fine until I switch away. The computer never detects that I've switched back. You might not notice that if you don't use a KVM.

I don't know how they make the USB 1.1 and 1.0 devices work (it is likely a built in hub as noted earlier). I also don't use a KVM device, which may actually be causing your problems. Have you tried it without that?

I can use my 1 TB external USB 2.0 disk, I can use my 640 GB external USB 2.0 disk, I can use my wireless mouse (USB 1.1), I can use my Lexar Jumpdrive Trio with various media sizes (USB 2.0), I can use my ancient IBM 8 MB memory stick (USB 1.0), and I can use my USB printer (USB 1.1), without any problems, at all. I have also tried an old USB 1.1 hub with it. The USB 2.0 drivers, whether 10.183, or 10.162, have no trouble with this setup. There were a couple of earlier updated drivers that didn't do USB 1.0, but that got fixed when I pointed it out.

Frankly, I was unpleasantly surprised when I discovered that the T510 only has 2 EHCI adapters, and no others, but that turned to a pleasant surprise when I tried the USB 1.x devices, and they all worked perfectly. After doing some investigating, I found out that the T510 was supposed to have only USB 3.0 adapters, but somehow that got scrapped, and it got shipped with USB 2.0 adapters. I don't know if it has USB 3.0 hardware, that has been reprogrammed to be USB 2.0, or if the hardware got changed. All I know is, that it works great, for me. According to Win7, they are Intel 5 series/3400 Series chipset Family USB Enhanced controller devices. I am waiting for the day when a BIOS update turns them into USB3.0 controllers  ???  Then, I may have a problem.

In any case, it seems that you do not need, or get, USB 1.x controllers any more, in some machines.
