Dead OS Walking
Redmond Press - Dec 13, 2007
While IBM officially discontinued support of its long-suffering OS/2 operating systems in December 2006 (I know that to many, it seems like it's been years), there are still those zealots out there who keep trying to open its crypt.

Why do they keep trying to bury the living? OS/2 Warp lives in eComStation.  8)

You're correct the update of the counter on the main page is not realtime; I have to update it once a while. This was the quickest solution that we could make to indicate the current status.

Chiming in late here.  I found this via a Google search.

I wonder of any response of official position or intention from IBM.

The reduction in signatures of the second petition may be due to the fact that OS/2 was released many years ago - it's appeal to newer, younger users is probably nil (this is dates me, I'm 40!).   I could be wrong.   Add to that the aspect of virtualization.

If OS/2 code (or the portions thereof) were released "today," along with a complete list of holes to fill in (missing proprietary code), my question is would there be sufficient development interest to move this product forward into mainstream use.  And, as is, how would it compete with Windows XP Pro, which seems to be the de facto standard on preferred desktop in the business world (from my contacts, anyway).

Obviously, getting the code out there is the first step.

Perhaps this is irrelevant, but I would really enjoy seeing OS/2 released into the wild, to see what people can do with it.

Regards...

IBM to open source OS/2 - very unlikely.

Do a little bit more Googling, you'll find articles like this:
