Why should the Linux community care about getting there hands on the OS/2 source code both from technical and user perspective?

The WPS is an amazing study of usability and extendability that KDE and gNome and other window managers dont seem to touch. I know for me, personally, I would love to see the WPS with a window effects manager like Beryl.

OS/2 is quirky, and old, and sometimes pissy, but it works AMAZING when it works, and Im sure there are a ton of things to be learned from IBM, both good and bad.

  • Currently, still better thread management (from what I have read) - though the Linux community is working on that.
  • The WPS of course.
  • (PowerPC Version) the highly modular aspect, including being able to swap components on top of different kernels with a lot more ease.
