I created an event on facebook as well as posted an item linking to the survey in my profile. I am trying to go through the list and invite everyone I know, im sure a few will sign it.

Excellent! We need some more large sites to post some kind of story about the petition!

Saijin_Naib

So far, only 8 people have said they will attend. I have invited over 400 people. We shall see.

Slashdot is missing so far as site to write something about the petition and it would be great to get something posted there as well. Also when speaking to linux community it would be great to get the OS2 developer community to help us out with valid reason why they should participate; that is what we're really would need also.

Have you ever thought about the above as being a direct consequence of comments like: "Since what is really a sad history for Linux is the gfx GUI such as KDE and Gnome that really are crap compared to the OS/2 WPS."  ???

The (Free) Open Source Software people, whom these guys are a reflection of, work for the pride and accomplishment that their creations represent.  This is a prime example of the egg(creation) coming a priori to the chicken (i.e., vendor).

As mentioned elsewhere --and perhaps in another time frame-- one's perspective has to be adjusted if the OS/2 is to be accepted (and subsequently embraced) by that community.  After all, open source OS/2 without the heavy lifting by the open source community, would simply reflect the current situation.

...simply my aggregate, of course.

Agree with you that using the word crap is hard words, but if I said that the OS2 WPS is better or far better I doubt that any one would care. Using the word crap was actually to get some attention and we got some attention from the press. But, to really boost the petition we need to get more signatures than last time and of course way more.

Having said that we need to compile a list of technical arguments why the WPS is superior graphics GUIs such as KDE and Gnome. Similar to the other list with 100 things about OS2 & eCS that I like.

There is an Randall Kennedy at InfoWorld who gets this kind of "attention" by blasting Linux  --but he pays the price in lost credibility since most of those who respond to his pseudo blog entries "piss" on him due to his ignorance on the technical domains he purportedly "knows."  John C. Dvorak of PCMagazine tried the same scheme by incensing the Mac religious with similar "strategy" --and similar results as Kennedy.   Is that what you want from the open source camp ???

I believe the attention was due to the serious journalism of Ms. Esther Schindler in CIO.  At the very least one of the other blogs around refer to her article.

On the other hand, I have not seen any hard core open source party referencing the OS/2 open source petition.  As I mentioned above, you do not want to alienate those who most likely would be contributors.  You might ask, What is the basis for my assertion?  On December 07, 2007, I submitted the story to Slashdot and it was met with indifference, needless to say.  It should not be surprising, of course, since from the vantage of hindsight what you refer to "crap" has in effect relegated to "old news" the marketing hype of Vista's resource intensive aero effects.

Point taken and of course the whole idea is not to piss off the Linux community; but the main problem is that that the most Linux developers has never seen OS2 and by that has no clue of what to benefit from looking into OS2 code. We, need to provide them with that kind of information; so I suggest that who ever has some great ideas about why the Linux community should care and how the can benefit from the OS2 code; document this by using the following thread - 100 reasons why the Linux community should care about OS/2.

::)MZ here, ya I do believe their 2nd reply was just another "brush-off", no real-Ization, a form letter reply like the one that I saw painted on a cave or in a stall somewhere., it is total crap indirectly given only as pointer ..visit my blog for a FULL REACTION...www.antiques4geeks.net, which I set up in response to the petition process. [sorry its been down now for 4 months but it will return on an open source OS/2 PLATFORM] Perhaps the petition process is mute being that we are talking about a long past OS [and the 'groundswell' within the bowels of IBM is seemingly NON EXISTENT] and they are NOT listening ...but wait, as a model the open source platform would be derived from one that was very stable and truly multi-threaded...not a bad start being that it ran Xitami Xserver better than any OS ever while my Vista seems to be leaking at every turn whilst using independent processes running Xitami...written in C++/ btw...xITAMI RUNS IN os/2 VERY EFFICIENTLY, and is VERY FAST!  THANK YOU, as IBM puts alot of dineros into linux as it killed os/2 (*in 2005 ) and ended support in '06 MUCH HAS CHANGED, in the OS world, esp where MS finally has real competition, believe me BALMER is worried about Linux enven though he does not have to worry about IBM's PC/OS personal market COMP anymore...FOLLOW the money trail @MS its startiing to lead to open source just like IBM has plans to stuff more buckage into LINUX based SERVERS...I can say KDE is NICE compared to when Linux was a command line based system, as common_Twindows moves more towards touchy-feely oohs and ahhs [read OZEnOZ -toto get out from behind the curtain], we need an OS that is in between Linux and Windows, one that can be hacked  (backtraked for security) yet simple to use...

someday os2 will be ruled by the young and famous-at least in the open-source world!
