JFS on Warp Server Advanced?

Hello,
I have full licenced copies of Warp 3, Warp Server 4, Warp Server 4 Advanced, Warp 4 and Ecs.   Warp Server 4 Advanced includes HPFS 386, which as I understand it has two important limitations:
- Hard Drive Size is limited to something (but I don't know what)
- File Size is limitied to 2 gig.

So I was wondering whether I could, practically and legally, somehow graft JFS onto Warp Server 4 Advanced so that I could use external USB 1TB drives (which I would set up with mirroring).  These would not be the boot drive, that would stay HPFS386.  The external drives would house a lot of data including images of DVDs, which I hope to be able to mount as required (hence the concern about file size limit).

Wondering if anybody had experience with such things....

How do you propose setting up RAID 1 using USB?

It would be much easier to get a 2 bay NAS (D-Link DNS-323 or equivalent) and use that for storage and accessed via SAMBA.

I can't remember which version of Warp 4  first got JFS but it was also included in one of the fixpaks so you should be able to use it on your systems.   It will require you to run VCU.EXE or DFSee to put the necessary lvm information on your hard disks (not needed on the NAS).

uhm.. If I don't recall it wrong, JFS got supported since Warp Server 4.5 (Aurora - Warp Server for e-business 4.5) and Warp 4.51 (Merlin Convenience Pack).

In terms of Mirroring, I was going to use the software that came with warpserver, or if that didn't work, one of the frontends to Rsync.

Is LVM a prequisite to using USB and/ or JFS?

I'm pretty certain JFS requires a 4.5x kernel, which means Warp 4 with Fixpak 13+, or WSeB, or MCP/ACP/eComStation.  (IIRC it uses the KEE APIs which were added in 4.5x - at a minimum that requires the kernel itself, possibly some other system files as well.)  So Warp Server Advanced won't support it; at least, not without some very, very unorthodox hacking.

In principle JFS also requires LVM, although it might be possible to hack around that requirement as well with some combination of DANIDASD, BootJFS, and possibly using Linux to format the partition with particular parameters.  I don't recommend trying unless you really, really know what you're doing, though.

In short: no, basically you can't use JFS in Warp Server Advanced.  But if you have eCS or Warp 4 you can install the Warp Server components on top of that - IBM even had a support document describing how to do it (with Warp 4) at one time or other.

FWIW, on paper HPFS(386) is limited to a 64GB partition size, but it reportedly starts running into problems once you get much above 50GB.

Thanks for the reply.  I did find the IBM doc about installing server components on Warp 4, but I wasn't game to try it on an otherwise functioning ECS installation.  No pain no gain though I guess!
