Hi,
I have long used OS/2, but currently have no machines with it running (due to the usual problems of necessary apps I have to run that require a current Windows system).  However, I realized recently I have a bunch of word document files that were compressed in the Zipstream security/compression system for OS/2.  Not sure, but may have been automatically compressed as part of an IFS, or maybe were individually compressed with CBS's Zipstream software.
My Question:  does anyone know how to open and uncompress such files with or without OS/2 and Zipstream?
Since I don't have a working OS/2 box right now, and not sure I could find the Zipstream software if I still have it, I'm wondering if I'm really out of luck.

Of if there is someone out there who has this compression system running and would like to provide a service of unzipping these files, I would like to hear from anyone!
Thanks.

IIRC, ZipStream was an IFS container - much like a zip file - but mapped out as an IFS. My guess is you'd need to install OS/2, install the ZS filesystem driver, mount the ZS IFS container and use it like a drive, or figure out how it's filesystem structure is set up to make a tool to decompress the filesystem container on another machine.

I can definitely tell you that the driver is no longer available. Also,  XWP had a problem with it.

If you do not find the application, and want a professionally created VirtualPC compatible virtual machine with Warp 3 and the ZipStream software, shoot me an email.  Your private data should not be provided to anyone (although some people around here offer it willingly to MS in exchange for mediocre software that keeps them shackled).

MS makes available VirtualPC for WinXX free to download.  You could simply run the OS/2 Warp 3 virtual machine inside your WinXX environment and manipulate your  documents yourself.

A word of warning:  the first time ZipStream Secure was instanciated, the user was prompted to input a password.  If that specific password was embedded in your documents  --either by the user or the software, you will not be able to open them probably.

On the other hand, if the password is simply to enable the ZipStream IFS for seamless compression/encryption, you are probably in good luck.  Below is a reference of the CONFIG.SYS that shows how the IFS driver is installed to work seamlessly in the OS/2 environment.

Best of luck in your search  :) !

I had the same problem some time ago: ZipStream provides a manual utility for unpacking compressed files, it is not necessary to install the file system driver, just unzip the distribution and get the file (I don't remember the name, but it was easy to identify).

I dont know if it will help (or comes with the decompression tool), but v1.10 Demo is on Hobbes:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=zipstream&pushbutton=Search

Contact Info can be found here:
http://www.softscout.com/software/Technology-Infrastructure-and-Network/Security/File-Security-and-Encryption/ZipStream-Secure.html

(probably outdated - the web page is empty except for a meta tag that makes it show up in the search engines)

Keys to v1.10 can be found online...

ZipStream 1.10 OS/2 : #1: 13 #2: 995585820 or #1: 604358427 #2: 382936623 or #1: 666 #2: 722771135
