I want to build a tool that monitors the status of ip address and their open ports and display the information in a WPS folder view that will show different icons for the different states of endpoint ip addresses.  I also would like to have the context menu be specific for each type of endpoint monitored.

I want to be able to visually see if an endpoint goes offline and when it returns to an online state again.  I want the context menu to have shortcuts to viewer apps and other misc tools like a notepad, VNC, http manage and ping.  I also want the capability to use icon extended attributes that I can set for values like mac, nbname, ect...

Does anyone know if this can be accomplished in WPS? Or has a project like this already been built?

Thank you for any information you can give!!! :)

Yes, it can be done - dont know if someone has done it or not... there is a "What's My IP" tool on Hobbes that I think is REXX, that will show you how to modify the icon text (and other stuff that will show you how to modify the icon via REXX as well). Another alternative, is (if you have WPSWizard installed) to make a custom widget to display the info - though it will be limited to being on your desktop... but you can also use a variant of that same code to update the xCenter/eCenter (if you have Warp, you have no eCenter - it comes with eCS - but you can download xWorkPlace to get the xCenter which eCenter is based off).

You can look at General Network Utilities on http://ru.ecomstation.ru/projects/gnu/. They have some functionality needed for you.

^ Yes, the GNU tools are (seemingly) quite powerful. Most are beyond the scope of what I need/understand, but I have found great use for the tool that resolves names to IPs and vice versa.
