""We decided not to build operating systems that are built on technologies that are 30 years old," said Principal Researcher Galen Hunt." When I read this part, I was thinking 'it was about time'.  ;D It might be 'too little too late'.  8)

"Microsoft Research has developed a non-Windows OS for academic types to play with. The subliminal message from Microsoft: Folks, we'd love to start from scratch with an OS, but we just can't go there."
IMO; they might have a better operating system if they did.  ;D

They have many research projects, this among them. However, the new technologies that they do incorporate into the newer OSs generally help things. XP is better than 2k, Vista is better than XP, and so on. Yes, they may have a better OS if they do start over from scratch, but they really cant afford to.

And they state: "Singularity's developers believe that SIPs can result in as much as 30 percent savings in performance." The 30% savings in performance is pretty good - every windows version used to 'save' about 50% in performance on the same hardware ;o)
