Anybody knows lastest RAID card which support OS/2, currently the virtualization solution seems the right way to survive OS/2 & POSEIDON MES

Well, the freshest card I've tried with was the Adaptec 2120S and the current drivers won't support the card; but when using the utility to detect supported cards it actually detects the card as a valid card that should be supported by the latest Adaptec drivers. Check this thread for some more information.

Hi,

Do you need it for a specific server brand/model? I do know Kim had poor luck with a recent Adaptec SCSI RAID card. I'm using IBM ServeRAID cards in my servers, but I do not know if they require IBM Servers to run - and all the tech documents assume that is the only place they will be installed. IF your machine is an IBM, provide the model and Type number and I can cross reference it with the info I have - the info online is not up to date (mine, according to "current" pages at IBM, is supposedly not supported, but was added to later drivers - the online info can be used as a starting point though). It is possible they will work in other machines, but I have not tested such, and dont have a spare card to try such a test. The cards are relatively cheap though... I got a U160 for about $40.

Kim may have some suggestions - I think he found a list someplace with a couple cards that are supported.

I have yet to try the software RAID driver (need to register it, and not sure if the registration will go through as the developer seems to have dissappeared) - but it does look promising for some other setups I have in mind (IDE).

My company's server is IBM X255, I do'nt know the exactly RAID card brand installed on it, I just heard from IBM partner vendor reported further there would not exist any new RAID card to support OS/2, that make me dispointed because our system got trouble to migrate other platform.

OK... if it was a stock x255 with IBM RAID option, then you MAY be in luck.

First thing I would try to do is figure out which card is in it. If you cannot figure that out from the RAID BIOS screen (which may not have that info), then...

If the server can be taken offline (assuming it is online now), look for an FRU number on the card. The card should hopefully have two "part numbers" - one will be labelled "PN" or some other designation for "Part Number" and the other number (which is usually very similar and always the same format - such as 37L2930) should be labelled "FRU" or "FRU #" (or similar designation).

Write down both numbers - though the FRU number is usually the easier one to look up.

If it is NOT an IBM ServeRAID card, figure out what it is and maybe someone here can either (a) find drivers or (b) determine that there currently aren't any.

If it is a stock x255 with no upgrade options, it is also possible it does not have RAID.

If it is not a compatible card, most of the ServeRAID 4 Series (U160 - RAID 0, 1, 1E, 5, 5E, 5EE, and I think 10 and a few more modes supported) work with the recent drivers (which seem to be in WSeB - even though they supposedly dont support all of them), and there is a new set of drivers floating around (I have a copy) that supports a bunch more.

Let me know what you find out, and I will let you know what I find. Also, if it is an IBM ServeRAID card, you may need the diag/config/driver/firmware disk to configure it's RAID features. That is still available online (supports almost all of their RAID cards), If you can't find that, I have it and the manuals for many of the ServeRAID cards.
