installing ecomstation on machine with vista preinstalled

I am trying to install ecom rc2-4 along side vista on new machine(Hp dv9623cl  2 111 gb hard drives,  2 gb memory, amd turion64, pioneer dvdrw dvr-k17.  on my old machine rc2 installed and worked fine, no problems.
never had a chance to try rc 3 or rc4.  reseting boot order to boot from cd, creates memory disk, unpackes install disk, brings up menu and ask, boot from hard drive, boot from cd, booting from cd brings up next menu asking, boot with default values or boot from my selected values (tried both ways).  Gets to white rectangle in upper left corner (ecs) and rectangle in right corner (load).  appears to be trying to launch install part of cd and fails(kicks back to starting point on cd.  Has anyone actually installed any rc along side vista.  I have tried several time with HP support at various levels and the best I could get was a vague hint that it might be security issues from vista or driver incompatibility.  If this is an absolute no go with vista,  would reverting the machine to xp be of any benefit.  Or this may never happen with this computer.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi Phil,

At this point it sounds like the issue is not related to Vista being on the machine - and is possibly a hardware compatibility issue. The filesystem drivers dont get loaded (IIRC) until after the eCS spash screen comes up.

Not sure what the specific issue is, but you may want to hit ALT-F1 when you see the little rectangle, and see if it displays anything on the screen (driver loading, etc). It is possible it may not (depending on how far it is actually getting before it hangs).

Hopefully someone else here may have a suggestion.

Try to disable ACPI from boot menu and avoid booting with default values; I've had similar issues with AMD X2 based system that hangs after the initial boot menu. ACPI in this case had to be disabled to get further on with the installation.

    Thanks for your response
Robert, tried alt f1 no response
Kim, I had tried your suggestion before but tried again to verify, no change.  I had triied changing all I could think of in options ie disabled all usb support,  disable disk integreity etc etc but to no avail.
Needless to say I would be one happy camper to get back my OS2/ecom, been using since 1992.

Hmmm... ensure that the BIOS's memory settings are NOT set to "OS/2". Also, some boards seem to have other options there (Win95/98/XP/OS/2/other)... the OS/2 setting will NOT work, and I have had mixed success with the others (most only have "OS/2" and "non-OS/2").

I have also run into issues with some SATA drives/controllers when "weird" modes, or modes supported primarily via the Windows driver, are enabled.

The final things I can think of are check the CPU, video, bus and memory settings, make sure nothing is overclocked. OS/2 seems to like that a lot less than other OS's - possibly because it uses the CPU differently. Also, disable BIOS caching (if it is even enabled). You may also want to see if the hard drive(s) can be set into some sort of compatibility and non-RAIDED mode (some BIOS's have options for this). And finally, on some systems, enabling "Plug-N-Play OS" does work - while on others does not - you may wish to play with that too.

One final note - if you change any of the SATA settings (presuming the machine is SATA), you may wish to try it with a different drive in the machine to test with first to ensure you do not compromise your Vista partition.

Mikeal:

I am a bit slow in responding, but thanks for the link and did not help/  Also tried all the previous suggestions to no avail.  My next question,  is it possible to copy all the files from cd to hard drive and install frome there.
