I believe your question was in the long run, and I don't believe (and many "experts" also do not believe) that the prices are sustainable.  As demand for a product drops, the price will eventually go down.  If the feds put some sort of cap on commodity trading then the price will also come down.....

Just who are these "experts"; and, what computing (financial and economic analysis) tools are they currently using if the OS/2 communities around the world (including those in international banking) are not currently endowed with the "best-of-breed" IT Specialists; also, whilst a brand new "KITT" (from the OS/2 Foundation of Law and Government...(joke) Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha......  ;D ;) ;D ; and, "eComStation 2.0" have not yet arrived  8)

World Bank: Biofuels lift food prices 75 percent

QuoteHorsefeathers. I don't see the oil exporters being hit over the head for high fuel prices, which has increased the costs of manufacturing and transportation. If oil was cheap, then the use of ethanol would drastically be cut or even disappear. I own a flex-fuel vehicle and ethanol is a boon if: 1. You like paying 1/3rd less than the price of gasoline. 2. Fuel tax revenues as compared to a Prius (vs. a Mecury Mountaineer FFV) is 350% more and 10-20% more than a comaparable standard internal combution engine. 3. Cleaner emissions. 4. Telling Hugo Chavez and the other two-bit dicators where to get off. 5. Patriotism at its best. Whom would you rather turn your dollar over to? The US farmer or Hugo Chavez? Darwin is also at work, survival of the fittest. Let all of the Arab States, China, India and all of these "emerging countries" choke on the oil they are consuming. Energy independence before saving the world. It is about time we thought about the US first and not every nation with their hand-out. this is a classic case of the Laffer Curve. Since there isn't any money on top (we're tapped-out), there isn't anything flowing down-hill. Screw the rest of the world. Let's tighten our belts and use E-85 as a stop-gap, until we move into hydrogen powered vehicles.

Question is: Should one hold back on their purchasing on today's Smart ForTwo!!!  ;D

Whether or not you should get a Smart Fortwo depends on your needs. I travel to work alone and do not need or want a big car. I like the idea of a really small car. If one needs to carry a lot or one needs to carry more than one person, the Smart Fortwo might not be for you. There are other small vehicles that might be more of a fit. There is the Nissan Versa, the Toyota Yaris, Suzuki has some small vehicles. There are more on the way.  ;D

I really love driving my little car.  8)

I like how you have to keep bringing in OS/2 into everything.. if this was actually the case I don't think the userbase would be nearly as small as it is today.

I have to refrain from replying since your actual statement makes no sense whatsoever.  Suffice to say, on this time will tell.  Though I think fuel is totally under priced in the US.  Even China had to drop subsidizing fuel because it is only holding off the inevitable.  The euro is worth roughly 2x the USD.  They are paying close to 6 dollars a liter... or 12 dollars US..  45.60 a gallon US... lol.. we're not doing so bad =)

With the size of the roof of a smart, I think you could probably charge the battery from a solar panel in about..  6 years.

Great.. along with a cracked winshield now I have to worry about the solar panel as well.. what, all this in the name of .00002mpg.

Toyota plans to add a solar panel to the Prius to power the ac. I think a variation of this would be a solar panel/sunscreen combo that powers little fans the fit at the top of the windows to help keep the car from over heating. The little fan that they usually come with usually do not provide much power.  8)

Americans will soon have another feel-good reason to buy a Prius.

Prius production in the U.S. will begin in late 2010 at a plant currently under construction in Blue Springs, Miss., Toyota announced Thursday......

Hell yeah! The Smart ForFun! My personal favorite is a tie between the Smart ForFour Brabus and the Smart Roadster Brabus Coupe.

I found a magazine for the Smart Fortwo. It is called Smart Times. I ordered a subscription to it.

Ghee whiz.... "BigWarpGuy" - a "mounted branch" in the North Rupunun (North of Brazil) when I was thinking that we could do a good business shipping "SmartFor Twos" down to South America; anyway, since we cannot yet beat the Brazilians at soccer then at least we can maintain (keep up) the edge with regards to OS/2 Technology Offerings South of the Border. BTW, is there any idea how we can get a "glimpse" (not of the rear specie of whale or piranha) but of the first SmartFor Two to cross the "Takutu Bridge at Lethem". It would be nice for someone to send us a picture as the "traffic" between Brazil and Guyana increases. (Also, will those vehicles be running on Ethanol 85 (E85) or what!).  8)

Additionally, from the above attached video I wonder what will be the choice of "navigational aid" (GPS...) for the "mounties". Plus, one other thing about the "mounties...." - they will not have to worry about "filling up" at the gas station!  ;D ;D ;D

Here comes that "SmartFor Two ATV"!  8)

That is a neat commercial. Thank you for the link. Perhaps we could have similar success with ver 2.0 of eCS. It would be neat to have a laptop stand in the Smart Fortwo where one could use OS/2-eCS on a laptop. :)

I am in total agreement with you about that commercial and can see no reason why the eComStation folks cannot build on that. Actually, I plan traveling South of the Border within the next year or so on business (expansion, development...) and discussions about the "SmartFor Two" is sure to be a topic on the agenda, not sure if "eComStation 2.0" will be GA by then! This is soooooooo long in coming (using the Pan-American Highway... I guess that we can get to "Brazil" long before eComStation arrives there too ;D ;D ;D

Thanks.
