Venture Capital funding for the development of Open-Source projects

To put this into some perspective:  Set apart just one piece of the need for venture capital to fund only an updated Java platform to run as a native on eComStation.

* What would be the cost of actual Java development?
* What's the extent of potential market penetration?
* How long will it take to crack the "profitability nut?"

Also, why should this OS/2 World Foundation web forum should be the development, sales and market planning divisions of IBM, Mensys, Serenity Systems International....  ::) ::) ::)
