Hi All,

We have been considering using wxWidgets in the Past,
and Are wondering what the state of the Port for eComstation is?

What is the lastest stable build?

What are known problems?

How big is any runtime libraries or included static libraries in user
produced exes?

What compiler is needed?  VA3008? GCC version?  openWatcom ver?

Do controls have flexiblility as good as PM?

Are windows drawn clear, etc.

Other tips or suggestions

thanks

Hi cssw,

I have seen a presentation on wxOS2 at some Developer's Workshop a long time ago. It was not that great back then. So unless significant progress has been made (which I doubt), I would think it's not the best choice. Of course, I stand corrected, if someone knows otherwise...

However, Qt3 is starting to take off. While there are still significant parts missing (especially for doing real development on the OS/2 platform and not just port/recompile stuff created somewhere else), it looks like the remaining issues with that will be resolved in the near future. The main problem with Qt is licensing. AFAIK, the OS/2 version can only be used for GPLed stuff and Trolltech is not offering a commercial license for it.

Truth to tell, wxWidgets port is far from being complete. One can make a simple app, but porting something that utilizes many GUI features will result in a mess on the screen. There are too few developers of out port, I think only two.

However, if wxWidgets was ported, it has one main advantage over QT - it uses native controls, where QT only draws controls that looks like native. So I guess any global system change to look&feel wouldnt affect QT, but would affect wxWidgets app.

On ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/events/DWS2005/ is the presentation about it. Google would give you Stefans email address if needed. Maybe it's worth to ask him directly.
