Limping? Hardly.

Limping? Definitely. They're 30 BILLION dollars lower in cash on hand from a few years ago. They are suffering MAJOR losses in EVERY SINGLE division other than Office/Word and Windows. They are sure to start mounting losses in the Windows division with their current and future plans (scrapping Vista for Windows 7 in such a short time frame before their 6 year financial and programming investment on Vista has been paid off). And their Office/Word division is showing lower profits with the increased proliferation of Open Office...

...so, me personally, I would call any company that blows through 30 Billion Dollars in 3 years (and burning through more daily) a company developing a rather pronounced limp.

...but that's just my opinion... yours apparently differs.  ;)

Agreed with this statement to a very high degree; and, all the more reasons why the OS/2 Source-Codes will have to be locked away from the OS/2 World Foundation et al in those "underground bunkers".   ;D 8) ;D

Here is one reason why:

Office 2007 fails OOXML conformance test

Word documents generated by today's version of Microsoft Office 2007 do not conform to the Office Open XML standard under development by the International Organization for Standardization, according to tests run by a document standards specialist....

Why pay for Microsoft when you can get Lotus Symphony for free?  8) ::) 8)

Symphony is currently useless to the OS/2 community.

Office 2007 not conforming to OOXML is very old news. Everyone knew it didnt, and knows it wont. And eventually, OOXML, the standard that MS wants to retain control over - yet call open - will become another useless MS only standard even if they do make Office able to read and use it.

Because I can't have Lotus Symphony for free since I use OS/2.\

On the other hand, you could just use openoffice.org.

IBM is no better then MS.  Even though IBM created the OS which I love so much, they also completely mishandled it and have frustrated me at every turn.  I have no loyalty to IBM or Lotus.

Talking about the love for OS/2... I am the parent of (a then K-12) student who was enrolled in a Laptop for schools program; oh man I can tell you - those fingers were faster delete essential programs faster that I could have taken the laptop back to the schools lab for re-installation.  ;) To make a long story short, rather that spending hours to visit the school lab I decided to go out one night an got a copy of Windows 95 so when ever those quick fingers of my K-12 child was at work once more I would do the re-installation on my own (I suppose you know the time period I am talking about since it was Windows 95) so, I don't need to talk about the experience of installing OS/2 in comparison to Windows 95 as anyone who have the experience of installing both operating system would know which one was the best.

"Frustrated"
you call it, I was able to make $150. on the first financial and economic software package I convinced a colleague to purchase and that was it; he was not willing to let others who can put up a project requiring international considerations get hold of a similar package as this would pose a competitive threat to his business  ::)  Do you see what I am getting at? Now, with packages like OpenOffice, Lotus Symphony which can now be obtained for free where is that competitive threat. ??? Sometimes I wonder what is it that I know that those millions of fellow Americans who are on the verge of loosing their homes do not know with free software packages like Lotus Symphony around. Perhaps, we all allowed IBM and Microsoft to have

completely mishandled OS/2
:-X .

Unlike you I am not now giving up on Lotus SmartSuite, Lotus Notes, Lotus Symphony... It's too late to start all over again.  :(
