Does anyone also know of Oliver Mark's whereabouts?

He left IBM a few years ago for Intel.
It was from him that we learned that Microsoft said they didn't care if IBM open-sourced OS/2 but that it would cost IBM an estimated $500,000 + lawyer fees to open-source it.

How WIP is it? What progress has been made? Projected time of arrival? Etc, etc, etc.

COMFETAR LIVE for OS/2 is an "Work-In-Progress" port of IBM's UC2 Suite of Products including (IBM's Lotus Notes, IBM's Lotus SameTime, IBM's Lotus Symphony....) to the OS/2 Warp Operating System that will allow users worldwide to

Hmm, to me it looks pretty much like vaporware or an april fool's joke. The solution provider (located in Guyana ?) doesn't even seem to have a web site showing the product "for Windows and Linux Operating Systems". Not to mention the "Applications to be subsequently ported to the IBM OS/2® Warp"...

FYI, IBM's Lotus Notes 8.0 and IBM's Lotus SameTime 8.0 for both the Windows and Linux Operating Systems are available today

I did not doubt that. I'm questioning the solution mentioned here:

http://www-304.ibm.com/jct09002c/gsdod/solutiondetails.do?solution=14283&expand=true&lc=en

It may be "Work-In-Progress", but at the moment I see nothing but marketing blah blah.

Please note that Web Site (presently under construction) to deliver on COMFETAR LIVE for OS/2 will be ready when COMFETAR LIVE for OS/2 is ready based on the above mentioned philosophy also.  ;)

As I understand it, the web site http://www.orionresourcesintl.com/ is supposed to be the home of the solution in general. Not only for OS/2. But all I see is a stupid web search page with *NOTHING*. No mention of the product, no details on the company behind it, not information about the project status or progress. Not to talk about an estimated release date. The whole appearance leaves a completely unprofessional impression. Heck, they want to provide such a supposedly big solution, but fail to create a simple web site informing about it...

You seem to be in a rush, what's the hurry?

I've seen too many announcements of great products that never materialized. And currently I see no indication that this product will do differently. But time will tell...

What if the company was intent on having it's web site supported on an Operating System that has not been enhanced in the last five to ten years?

Then I would stay silent until I have at least *something* to show to the public. Or add a page like "This is going to be the greatest software in the world. Currently it's not finished, but you will get this, this and that. Stay tuned !". Even if this page would have to be carried on an Operating System that was enhanced in last five to ten years.

Did you not sign the Second OS/2 World Foundation's Petition letter to IBM?

I did, but without high hopes. Or in other words: I didn't expect it to change something, but it didn't hurt either. But I don't see how this is related to "COMFETAR  LIVE for OS/2".

Which major company in the rapidly changing IT world in which we live in this day and age does not have a subsidiary in other countries

Sure, many companies do have foreign subsidiaries. Even though Guyana sounds a bit like what you use to circumvent local laws or taxes...

How about finding out from Serenity Systems International what is the "General Availability" (GA) Date of eComStation 2.0  8)

How about orienting on companies that do it right rather than on the worst examples you can find. OTOH, AFAIK they did provide an estimated release date (which if course was "corrected" more than once).

Quoteone of the largest computer companies on the planet is yet to deliver on "Chicago"
???

Sigh, as you have been told before, that software company delivered "Chicago" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_95 almost 12 years ago...

Doesn't it make you ask yourself certain questions that "Comfetar Live" shows only 2 hits on google, both pointing to os2world.com?

Well, in as much as this is a public forum and the domain is public at least it is believe we reserve the right to keep certain things "confidential"; so, it is a pity that we cannot provide any more information than we are currently able to do.

My personal opinion on that is:

Provide something real or shut up. Don't waste people's time with rumors, vague announcements or instructions on how to survive in the South American Jungle. If you are not allowed to talk about the project in a public forum, then simply don't talk about the project in a public forum. Don't reply to questions with other questions or strange links. At least I have no time to follow those, I got to program some OS/2 software... If you have something meaningful to say: go ahead and do so. If not (and I have not found any useful information about the product - besides it's name - in your posts) leave it.

Over and out.

Saborion,

you should not start from the viewpoint that everyone here is a spot-faced teenage noob, surfing on the hype of eComStation while we don't know what the history behind it is. And don't think that you're the saviour to a starving community that has merely deserved to be enchanted by your brilliance. That's not the case.

People don't become "important" because they scream at everyone "I'm more important than you!".
They become important because of their achievements. What have you achieved so far?

While most of us know each other for years (even if only "virtually") and we know each others achievements, no one here knows anything about you. No one has ever seen a program by you. No one here is making as much fuzz about as less as you do.
You do nothing but
- boring us with unrelated links to fuzzy articles
- statements about the importance of a piece of software which does not exist
- the importance of you

So please listen: Try to be a little humble. And a pocketful of dignity is not a sin, not to talk about (n)etiquette or how to approach people that you obviously don't know nothing about. Like in jungle: When there's a noise behind a bush, do you run at it, screaming? Or don't you first try to be quiet and see what's up, approaching very carefully if at all?

If case you don't know who "rudi" is... well, ehh... it doesn't make sense to tell you.
Just take for granted that he *has* done a lot for us and he *has* a working program.
And this is not some backdated ported crap but something top-notch, build from scratch with a high degree of technical skills involved.

Or to put it that way:
If you EVER manage to arrive at *his* level of expertise, free feel to call me... whatever you want.
Until then: Stop screaming at everyone here like we're dumb babboons.
The (os2)world has NOT been waiting for you to save us from despair.

And regarding COMFETAR LIVE for OS/2... you make me really loose patience.
You say the website will be ready when the program is ready.
So why did you put it up then? Why do you make such a noise about that stuff if there is nothing?
You will not raise expectation or demand. You will only make people turn their back on you this way.

In regards to some of your posts let me put clear that "the kimhavs of the (os2)world" will not come to your aid with the os2world foundation behind them, carrying trunkloads of dollar bills to get you software on track. You seem to lack any clue about who "os2world" is, who the people here are and perhaps you even have lost the idea of who YOU are... at least that's my impression looking at the way you are communicating here.

And to say one thing clear:
This thread was one of the last chances to make you stop spamming all the other ones. But you seem even unable to stick to you very own topic. Now, I don't expect you to say you're sorry, as it won't make any difference anymore either. I just expect you to stay ON-TOPIC and try to argument in your favor with facts instead of insults. You currently are being watched every move VERY closely and you ARE walking on a thin line... note well that before os2world will lose any one user because of you, I will certainly pull the emergency brake and lose YOU before instead. You're the n00b, not everyone else.

Thomas

BTW: There is no responding to this post allowed and no discussion once for all.
I do not tolerate any wishy-washy on what I said.
I hope I made this one clear.

Hopefully, a better response to this will be available as we move closer to (among other issues) the General Availability Date of eComStation 2.0 now scheduled for 2009.

Thank you.

Well, to further support rudi's statement, I for one can attest to the fact, that OS/2 (even non-updated versions such as WSeB CP2) can easily still handle (on extremely modest hardware like a quad 550MHz P3) over a half million requests a day - and not even notice it is doing something. How do I know this? All my servers are running either WSeB or eCS v1.2MR. The main server is the WSeB machine running on archaic hardware, which has garnered those stats without going over 10% CPU utilization per CPU. I've also, in the past, used WS4 Advanced and then WSeB on slower machines (PII 500, PIII 600, dual PIII 600) and matched or exceeded those stats.

Absolutely no enhancements are needed for OS/2 to be able to handle more traffic than even Slashdot can throw at it (I know, I've tried, suceeded in getting bombarded, failed in making the server so much as hiccup), or the vast amounts of traffic the Star Trek Phase 2 (http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/) website threw at it when we took over the site while their hosting provider was down (and due to that, we've got the contract to resume hosting the site as soon as the current contract is up).

http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://www.startreknewvoyages.com

In two days, we handled a third of a million requests (screenshots elsewhere in the forum - on average 90 requests per minute - during busy times, over 200 a minute sustained) with no noticeable CPU usage above the box's normal "do nothing" state. That was on the WSeB box with the quad 550MHz CPUs. Much unlike the quad 2.8GHz Linux machine which constantly complains of going over it's CPU quota (hint, it and it's fan club, iftcommand.com are the only things on the linux box). (saborion2) Please provide a better reason why the website isnt up.

Regards,
Robert

PS: As a side note, the Windows 2000 box the site was previously on, was always experiencing downtime and being overloaded - that was when our site traffic was 1/10th of what it is now that it has been on the Linux box and our box. What we learned is that Linux makes Windows 2000 look like a dog - it so crushes it, it's not funny... and that WSeB, on 1/5 the hardware makes both of them (Windows, and even Linux - as good as it is) look like they aren't doing anything. When it comes to serving, lack of updates to OS/2 is not an excuse.

Hey I'm ...... and I administer .....  I noticed you're looking for help with.....

I just launched ........... and it allows you to setup your own site on my server.  (for free)

Since you already have a domain, you're good to go.

There's lots of themes to choose from and there's video tutorials to get you familiar with using the stuff.

Here's an example of someone using my server.
...............

Well, from the above you may realize that we may be closer to the date for formal launch that you may want to believe; but, if the server cannot now support IBM's Lotus Notes 8.0, IBM's Lotus Sametime 8.0, Lotus Symphony 1.0 et cetera, et cetera.....and higher then we may not wish to hear anything about it.

In time it will be up. And, we don't think that we necessarily have to wait on eComStation 2.0.

Hence, our desires to play in the most modernized applications' playing fields.

Well then you're in agreement with Robert.  If you read Robert's post, he pointed out that OS/2 (and eCS) are more then able to handle the job of running a web site - right now - no need to wait for eCS 2.0 for that.

As for the Lotus stuff, that is more a matter of your own personal choice.  Millions of websites worldwide run just fine without any need for Lotus products.

Otherwise, until something is actually up on the web (aside from in this forum) it is clear that you're talking about vaporware, Sab.

Furthermore if you really had all the financial backing of various banks and other companies that you claim, I highly doubt you'd be using a free server.  But that's just my own observation.

Microsoft launches Windows Azure

Well, it looks like this "cloud computing" that Microsoft has been talking about can come in handy for COMFETAR LIVE; and, may be worth giving a try. It will be interesting to know what is the direction of OS/2's-eCS' Development in this "cloud computing" business that companies have been pushing.  8)
