Hey Klipp, I dont know if this is a potential licensing issue or anything, but could you perchance send me the installer or whatever is necessary to install from so I can test out VT here on my VIA chipset with Uniaud?

klipp

Saijin, I'd be glad to, --- BUT, I believe this is not permitted, especially distributing off the Warp 4 CD. We need to get some other responses as to whether I can do this or not!
Hey, Robert M -- where are you?

This is true, and was my primary concern. I know I should be allowed access to it as I have access to it from my eCS 1.2MR CD2, but that version is apparently broken, and I don't have any of my WARP4 materials, just my WARP3 extras CD :C

Surely, I can wait until we know whether this is okay to do or not, and I appreciate it klipp.

I finally found VT on my eCS 1.2 CD.  I compared its directory structure to the one that came with eCS 1.0 and there is definitely a difference.  Also, it looks like the vt.cmd file is definitely different from eCS 1.0 vt.cmd file. The one in eCS 1.2 looks like it may be trying to do much more than version 1.0's cmd file. Possibly if you had your directory struction set up the same, had the same 'listing' files and  vt.cmd files from eCS 1.0, it would possibly install correctly.

I've tested this procedure on a couple of machines now and the following procedure seems to work with SBLive as well as Uniad and can be installed on partitions other than Boot drive "C".
1: Install VT from the eCS 1.2 CD#2
2: Reboot
3: Set up a user
Continuing now will cause the program to fail
4: Next delete these three directories (SPCH_BIN, SPCH_RO, & SPCH_RUN) from the VT directory created by the eCs 1.2 CD#2 install -- Do not delete the SPCH_BSF & SPCH_RW directories.
5: Copy these same three directories form the Warp 4 VT directory into the VT directory created by the eCs 1.2 CD#2
6: VT should now function without problems.
If someone could fill me in on the legalities of posting these three Warp 4 directories as a "Fix" for VT, I would be willing to post these directories on my web site as a download for people that do not have a Warp 4 CD. You cannot make VT function using these three directories without a Warp 4 or Ecs 1.2 CD#2, so I'm thinking that posting these directories  might possibly be acceptable .
However I would first like to hear other peopl's views first.

thanks  klipp

Dude, thanks klipp! I hope you can post them soon, I would really like to use VT and show my friends how cool OS/2 is :D

StefanZ

Works!  :D
Installed the version from eCS 1.2R CD2 (VT US version) and copied files from orig Warp4 (US) CD and it works. All under eCS 2.0 RC4 and UniAudio (Intel integrated AC'97 Audio Controller on ThinkPad R51).

Now the other task: what if I want to use VT UK version? (i.e. have the Warp4 UK original). I tried to apply the UK files to eCS US version and that does not work  :-\

Thank you, klipp, and all who helped, for testing and figuring this out, and for ruling out Uniaud as the source of the problem.

Getting VT to work on eCS is wonderful news!  I remind everybody that if you use VisProRexx to develop software, every VisPro Object (Button, Entry Field, Container, Entry Field, ...) is AUTOMATICALLY Voice-Type-enabled.  Just speak the button caption and it CLICKS THE BUTTON.

Speak the Entry field caption and the focus goes to that field.  It is wonderful.  Almost NO TRAINING is required.

I would be willing to help anyone with VisPro Rexx development.

Hi all,

something that came to my mind regarding this thread:

Lately, RobertM took the effort to compile a thread into a How-To article. (Thanks a lot BTW)
(see http://www.os2world.com/content/view/17999/2/ )

I'm wondering whether we should try to save the gained experiences from this thread into another such How-To article... what do you think?
Volunteers, anyone? I will not be able to do this before mid of June... so if someone else would like to jump in...

Cheers
Thomas

Which is the difference between Warp Voice type and ECS voice type?. Is it only the possibility to install in a partition different from c: or there are some other improvements?
In both cases great result to have it working again!!!

Hi,

IIRC the eCS version is nothing but the same version of Warp4 GA plus including the accumulated fixes.
I cannot tell if VT actually still is actively supported by IBM - but for the OS/2 | eCS version I doubt.
Also, I didn't use VT for more than 2 years now, so I might not be up to date anyway....

But looking at your question:
This is another reason for having a "How-To" summary on the topic. :)

Cheers,
Thomas

Correct.

The VoiceType product has been dead for a long time. The sucessor called ViaVoice was only available for Windows. What from I've heard, recognition rates where quite improved even without training and adding new vocabulary was easier. It has been rumored that somewhere in a drawer at IBM, an OS/2 version lay around. But it never saw the light of day.

As for VoiceType, I had it working very well once on Warp 4, but then I didn't use it for a long time. When I did try it again on eCS, I couldn't get it to connect to the driver so to speak, i.e., the sound recording via the microphone didn't work correctly. All in all, the results heavily depend on the quality of both the hardware and the driver. Soundblaster cards didn't work well, but my trusty old Terratec 32/96 ISA card produced very good results.

Sorry I join this thread late. I'm interested in using VT. I've got eCs 1.2R. I installed VT but it didn't work.
What about the VT files that come on the wrp 4 CD?. Are they available yet?. Where?.

I also wanted to have VT working in spanish. Is it possible to configure the VT version that comes with eCs 1.2R to make it work in spanish?. If not, does anybody know if the people at eCs can change my Us version that comes with eCs 1.2R, for a spanish version?.

Thank you.

Dear Serenity system and Mensys (Some of you must read this forum!!!),
the items in the forum pointed out the bugs and the way to workaround.
Why don't you add Voice Type in the 2.0 ecs release?.
