General Comments
;Neil Waldhauer - USB 3.x test Report
:Arca Noae USB driver stack 12.06 is installed. With the USB 3.0 Enabled setting in BIOS on Auto, mouse and keyboard sometimes work, even with KVM. Support for Mass Storage similarly sometimes is working. With USB 3.0 disabled in BIOS, USB 2.0 support is working with Mass Storage. Mouse, keyboard and KVM work sometimes.

:Normal operation of the laptop does not require USB. The built-in mouse and keyboard are not USB.

:This is a small laptop. There is no support for the built-in WiFi. I use a travel router connected to the Ethernet port. To me, the travel router has more and better capability than XWLAN. The router uses GL.inet software controlled by a web interface that runs just fine in Firefox.

;Mike Kölling Report:
: ArcaOS 5.0.4 with USB 3.0 drivers is working. However he experienced performance issues with the mouse, when using the X250 in the docking station. (The mouse is running smooth with xHDC, when the X250 is out of the docking station).

;2018-01-28
:Installation of AOS5.0.1 went successful, also installation of eCS2.2BetaII - both from external DVD-Drive (USB), USB only stable with the branch of Lars Erdmann.

;Old
:Installation on X250 from USB-CD/DVD-ROM failed. eCS v2.1 started up to maintenance screen bot no HDD was found. eCS v2.2 Beta II even did not start up from CD/DVD-ROM. I tried to clone my existing system using DFSee and finally worked after some trouble with partition alignment. Status now on X250 is a working eCS v.2.1 with ACPI showing 4 cores, full support of native screen resolution via PANORAMA, working USB (mouse and thumb drive tested as well as USB keyboard in docking station) after disabling USB3.0 in BIOS.

Audio
There had been reported on the OS2World forum to make the Uniaud driver to work om this model.

The try the following command on Startup.cmd
unimix -id1 -val87 -cnt0
unimix -id1 -val87 -cnt1
It is possible that newer version of Uniaud will include this settings.
General Comments
* UEFI BIOS: On the Thinkpad BIOS you need to set it to "Support CSM mode" and "Disable Secure Boot" for OS/2 to boot.
* USB: In the Lenovo BIOS you need to disable USB 3.0 support, then those are used as 2.0 Ports. That option is only available for the Lenovo Thinkpad up to the 50 series (X250,T450,W550) but not for the brand new 60 series.
* INSTALLATION: Installation from DVD up to eCS 2.2b2 is not possible. The so far only succesfull way for me: cloning an existing OS/2 Warp 4.52 (updated) or eCS (updated) installation with DFSEE and restoring the Clone then
* BOOTMANAGER: Using Airboot Manager gives the chance to use different Operating systems, this device came without an Operating System, I am using Windows 10 alongside OS/2 Warp 4.
* GRAPHICCARD: Please note: the additional internal Nvidiacard is only availiable with "Student/Campus" models. Important: the Mini Display Port does work with Panorama Driver as well - Great!
* TOUCHPAD/TRACKPOINT: Both working well with OS/2! Each can be deactivated using BIOS Settings.

:USB 3.0 works on all ports for mouse, keyboard and mass storage. This was not always the case, but starting with 12.08 USB stack, function is pretty good.
:USB 3.0 can be enabled in BIOS. The Dock does not work well.
:USB 3.0 works on all ports for mouse and keyboard. Mass storage does not work with USB 3.0 driver. However, this computer (and many others) seem to suffer from problems with hubs, KVM and other devices, and once problems occur, USB drivers get confused and then mouse, keyboard and mass storage do not work reliably. I thought I'd post this up here.
:USB 3.0 can be enabled in BIOS. If it is disabled, and the USBXHCD.SYS driver is not loaded in config.sys, the Mass storage works quite well.
:I can operate with USB 3.0 Enabled. The Dock and the KVM, and mouse and keyboard work. Only Mass storage does not work in this case. In normal work, I do not use USB mass storage devices, so I didn't notice at first.
:USB 3.0 12.06 works partially. USB 2.0 12.06 is working great if USB 3.0 driver is not loaded. I'm not sure that this is explained in "known issues" in the readme.
:However, all computers seem to suffer from problems with hubs, KVM and other devices, and once problems occur, USB drivers get confused and then mouse, keyboard and mass storage do not work reliably. I thought I'd post this up here. I plan to submit a bug to Arca Noae, but feel free to post more information if you use hubs or KVM. Bugs are not limited to this computer.

Sometimes it is important to know the details and specifications of the hardware. Here we list some of the tools that can help you extract more information about the hardware you are using.

PCI.EXE
This is the most used command tool and it comes included on ArcaOS 5.0.1. If you don't have ArcaOS you can download it at: PCI.exe.

The pci.ids is the plain text database of devices, it is important to also updated to the latest level from its site . PCI.exe uses pcidevs.txt which have a different format than pci.ids, there is this REXX tool called ids2devs that will help you convert it.

If you run:
[BootDrive]:\sys\install\detect\pci.exe
You will see a list of all the devices connected to the PCI bus of you computer.

Craig Hart's PCI+AGP bus sniffer, Version 1.04vkA, freeware made in 1996-2005.
Loaded Vendor Data : "This is version 2017.03.10 of pci.ids using ids2devs version 1.03"

If you want to save the report to share it or have it for future reference you can run:
[BootDrive]:\sys\install\detect\pci.exe >pciout.txt
Here you can also see a full report sample from a Intel D865GBF motherboard.

There are also some other switches and options you can try with pci.exe. Check "pci.exe /?" to view other options.

DMIDECODE
There is also available the DMIDECODE command line tool that will list you mode details of your hardware ports. This software is included with ArcaOS 5.0 or can be downloaded from Hobbes

If you run:
[BootDrive]:\sys\apps\anpm\dmidecode.exe
You will see a detailed report of the components of your computer.
There is a sample of this report for the Intel D865GBF motherboard.

lsusb
This command line tool will detail the USB devices attached to the you machine (Internal or external). Download lsusb from Paul Smedley web page. Remember that you need to install also the "libusb1-legacy-0" package from the netlabs rpm (Arca Noae Package Manager).

It is also important to update the USB.IDS database from it's site , and in ArcaOS you need to located to X:\sys\bin (where "X" is your ArcaOS drive). Also remember if that you have no USB devices attached, it will not show you any message or warning.

To get the details of your USB attached devices run:
lsusb -v
You will get a full information report like:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 80ee:0030 VirtualBox
Device Descriptor:
bLength 18
bDescriptorType 1
bDeviceSubClass 2 ?
bDeviceProtocol 1 Interface Association
bMaxPacketSize0 16
iManufacturer 1 VirtualBox
iProduct 2 VirtualBox Webcam - Integrated Camera
iSerial 3 8f2d6bbea79be203
...

You can also generate a file like:
lsusb -v >usbout.txt
Or if you want to read on the screen the full report pausing each page you can run:
lsusb -v |more

From communication with Frank Rupp

Networking between Warp and Windows Seven definitely works, still without recourse to a domain controller, though it took me a while to get the routine down. I'll set the stuff up like :

[A] Netbios names none longer than eight characters, no spaces, no underscores, no hyphens. Also, a capital letter at the beginning and seven numbers after that, - as, 'F5551212' - as this will avoid the inconsistencies which are known to exist between how different versions of Windows resolve the case of characters which come after the first character.

[A2] About the passwords : yes if they have letters, then those must be capitals only, - and - if netbios, or netbios over TCP/IP, is part of the setup, then the password ought to be no longer than twelve characters. If it's longer, the TCP/IP part will still work, but the netbios layer will throw this error message :

"UPM0004C: The program failed to start. The exit code returned from the program is:19"

Those two limitations - capital letters only, and no longer than twelve characters, - actually do leave the Warp netbios interface being a bit behind the curve for security, in comparison with other network stacks.

[B] A user profile, in order to be seen & connected by a Windows Seven machine, cannot be a profile with no password.

[C] A user profile, in order to be seen & connected by an OS/2 machine : if there is a password, that password cannot contain lower-case letters.

[D] Machines to be connected by way of MPTS need to be all on the same Netbios 'workgroup' name. It also helps if the profile names are the same, and the passwords are the same. Connecting by way of Samba for eComStation, simultaneously to differently named workgroups, I'll suspect 'probably' works, though I've not yet tried it. And Windows from 95 onwards seem never to have had a problem discerning the existence of multiple workgroup names, - though a Windows 95 machine seems unable to present a password which Windows Seven will recognize.

[E] Connecting dissimilar machines by way of wireless networking, as in a cafe, works equally well with either MPTS or Samba. But, it needs to be wireless with no password. I've no doubt that there is, or ought to be, a workaround for this, - - ?

[F] Sharing works better on Windows Seven if there is at least one shared partition which is either FAT16 or FAT32. A detachable floppy disk would probably do it. Thus do I gleefully crudely shortcircuit the excessive & annoying requirements of late-type Windows networking. And such a partition once fitted, also makes the NTFS partitions more easily visible.

[G] I've found that with a Windows Seven machine and a Warp machine connected wirelessly, an NTFS partition is more easily accessible to OS/2 than are the FAT 16 or FAT32 partitions. Files can be more easily copied & moved back and forth, including all the long file & directory names, extended attributes, and so forth.

[H] The windows Seven copy and move routines - what the hell happened to them ?? They are now weeny & useless, and choke hopelessly when you try to copy or move a directory, or to copy or move more than three files at once. Not so our trusty Workplace Shell - - if you've got a batch of stuff you want to manipulate between two Windows Seven machines, connect them both to an OS/2 machine, and have at !
