This program should enable you to read audio data from your audio CDs with SCSI CDROM drives. Reading audio data is not defined in the SCSI-2 standard, that means that vendor commands are used for this task. Currently included command sets are

  • Toshiba
  • Sony (Hitachi, Pioneer seem to be compatible)
  • NEC
  • Plextor
  • HP CD-R writers (I heard that these are Philips drives)

This does not mean that other drives don't work. A PIONEER drive is compatible with SONY's audio read commands, so you may try other command sets with your drive. To do so, you have to start in override mode by adding the vendor name to the command line:

sadump sony

forces CD Audio Dump to use SONY command set.

You have to specify a location where the audio tracks are to be written to. Use the Path... button to enter a path and filename prefix. The track number and file extension will be added automatically.

The audio files are stored in either WAVE or RAW format (WAVE without header). If the Grab button stays inactive the disk space may not be sufficient (the 'Bytes needed' field will change to red colour). Next to the track list are two progress indicators. The left one displays the progress for all tracks selected while the right one displays the progress of the current track.

The speed indicator below is being updated after reading a complete track and shows the average speed the last track read with.

IMPORTANT

You need to have OS2ASPI.DMD loaded with /all paramter and my ASPI Router driver which is in this package too:

BASEDEV=OS2ASPI.DMD /all DEVICE=<your path>aspirout.sys

DEBUGGING

SADUMP provides a command switch debug to turn on logging of errors. The log file is named debug.log. If you encounter errors when grabbing audio tracks even if your drive should be supported, please send me that log file together with your error report. If your drive is not in the list of supported drives and not compatible with them and you want me to add support for your drive, please provide me with the SCSI Command Reference for your drive and hope that I find some time to implement it. Since this program is for free I insist that it is your task to get this document.
