If you have installed the MPTS refresh US08210, then you now have the capability to use the campus WindowsNT WinS servers for NetBIOS name resolution. (WinS is the system used by all Windows machines for theirNetBIOS over TCPIP, so you'll finally be on the same wavelength...)

To configure for the UIUC campus, here is what you need to do:

  1. Run MPTS
  2. Click on Configure
  3. Select "LAN Adapters and Protocols", and press Configure
  4. When the configuration dialog comes up, select the "IBM OS/2 NETBIOS OVER TCPIP" with a single click of your mouse, then click on the EDIT button.
  5. A new dialog will appear -- make sure Driver Parameters is selected, and click on Configure.
  6. The Driver Parameters dialog box will now appear:
       Change Node Type to "H-Node".
Enter "128.174.5.30" in the NetBIOS Name Server address field.
Enter "128.174.201.132" in the Backup NetBIOS Name Server address field.
  1. In succession, click on the following buttons to close out of the MPTS program and save the changes: OK, Close, OK, Close, Exit, Exit
  2. When you have exited from MPTS, you must shutdown and restart your machine to pick up the new changes.
  3. To test your system, try the following command from an OS/2 Window:
   NET VIEW \\LARCH.AG

(You should get a listing of the shares on my workstation...)
