System Notebook is a notebook-style configuration and optimization tool for OS/2's CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT startup files. It allows you to configure your system using the same method you would use to set up any other object in the Workplace Shell, with a notebook control, as opposed to editing a large and complex text file. For example, to change the size of your HPFS disk cache, just flip to the "HPFS" page, enter the new size in the "Size" field, and press "Save", instead of searching through piles of documentation, looking for the right statement to insert in your CONFIG.SYS file.
There is a page for each of the following settings:
- Shells: Controls which program acts as the Workplace Shell, etc.
- Startup: Controls OS/2's startup objects, folders, etc.
- Tasks: Controls task priorities, timeslicing parameters.
- System: Controls the system prompt, Undelete settings, system-related settings.
- DOS settings: Controls RAM size, DOS Prompt, DOS Path, UMB, DOS Undelete, etc.
- SwapFile: Controls size and location of SWAPPER.DAT file.
- Paths: Specifies Program, DLL, data, help, BOOKSHELF, and Glossary paths
- Printing: Specifies printer monitor buffer sizes, etc.
- FAT Cache: Controls cache size, AUTOCHECK parameters, LazyWrite settings, etc.
- HPFS Cache: Controls every aspect of the HPFS disk cache.
