Warpstock Europe in Belgium - Filip Molčan (molcanf@os2.cz)

Warpstock Europe in Belgium - Filip Molèan (molcanf@os2.cz)
The Warpstock Europe Event Team is pleased to announce that Europe's annual OS/2 and eComStation conference is coming back for the third time, this time crossing the border to Belgium. Warpstock Europe 2001 will be held at the KH Limburg' College in Diepenbeek, Belgium on November 2-4, 2001. OS/2 and eComStation users from all over Europe - or anywhere else for that
matter, are invited to come to Belgium this year to attend Warpstock Europe 2001. Even though the organization of the event is still in it's early stages, the Event Team already has many ideas on what to offer during this three day OS/2-fest. Plan on coming if you want to attend high-quality lectures about a variety of OS/2 and eComStation related subjects. You'll talk to software developers, meet the people behind Netlabs and Odin, discover the new and exciting eComStation, learn about new products, buy them or try them out at the Exhibit Hall, and finally expect to have a smashing time at the Warpstock Europe Social Night Event. "The third edition of Warpstock Europe is an important milestone in the event's short history, and everything will be in place to make it a big success", says John Bijnens, the Event Team's coordinator. Located in the heart of Western Europe, Belgium is at a convenient traveling distance for people coming from Holland, Germany and France.
Attendees flying in from other countries will arrive at Brussels International Airport, which is only 80 km away from where the event will be held. To accommodate attendees from outside of Europe, the Event Team is planning special arrangements for transportation from the airport to the event site. Diepenbeek, Belgium and neighboring city Hasselt are perfectly suited to host the Warpstock Europe 2001 Conference. Attendees will feel comfortable and at ease in Hasselt, which is a very safe and exceptionally clean mid-sized city with excellent shopping facilities, and is conveniently located only a one hour driving away from major Belgian cities, including Brussels, Antwerp and Leuven.
Place for all the action at Warpstock Europe 2001 will be the 'KH Limburg' College. Members of the Event Team have already concluded a first inspection of the site with nothing but positive results. "This site has everything this conference needs to succeed", says Technical Coordinator Johan Driesmans, and "we would like to thank the College Board of Directors for their support and for making this site available to us." Large conference rooms will be available for presentation sessions and hands-on workshops. The spacious exhibition hall provides enough room for Warpstock Europe vendors, and it can be closed off before and after event hours. There will be an "Internet cafe" offering free Internet access to attendees, a restaurant, a separate press room, guarded parking space for hundreds of cars, etc. Behind the organization of Warpstock Europe 2001 is an international group of OS/2-users. "It's good to see that so many people are still out there, willing to fight for an event like this", says OS2.org web master Andreas Linde. And Exhibitor Coordinator Luc Van Bogaert says: "No way we could make a successful event without the help and support from our friends at Team OS/2 Deutschland e.V.; they're the ones who've made the first two editions become reality and we're fortunate to have them around, helping out with this year's edition". For all questions about Warpstock Europe 2001, contact the Event Team Coordinator John Bijnens at info.warpstock2001@os2ug.be. Other team members are Frans Morre, Andreas Linde, Johan Driesmans, Luc Van Bogaert, Luc Coenegracht, John Roosen, Alain Rykaert, Serge Sterck, Marcel Van Baelen, Alex Wyckmans, Christian Langanke, Bart Van Leeuwen and numerous others willing to help out during the event. TCP/IP for DOS interface - Martin Kiewitz (martin@kiewitz.de)

I never found any documentation about the interface used by IBM TCP/IP for DOS (virtual exists under OS/2 MDOS). Last week I finally discovered the basics, then more. Today I can say that I can do about 95% with the interface directly via assembly. Not using the Developer Toolkit. This has the advantage of programming the interface under assembly or other languages than MS C.

If anyone is interested or wants to write some documentation for the public, please contact me. I will explain and help you with it. A shim to make Arachne/DOS working under OS/2 would be possible, too. (!) But currently I dont have time. My current TCP/IP interface driver uses just 2k (!).

Warpzilla 0.9.2 - Mike Kaply ()

Warpzilla 0.9.2 is available, within hours after Mozilla.org released versions for Windows, Linux, and Mac.

This build is fully optimized, so the performance is much better than any previous build.

Notable OS/2 improvements include a fix for the image corruption problems and some font improvements.

For more general release notes that apply to this and all Mozilla 0.9.2 builds, check out:

http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla0.9.2

You can download the build from here:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla0.9.2/mozilla-i386-pcos2-vacpp-0.9.2.zip

We have had some reports of SSL not working due to optimization issues. If you are unable to connect to a secure site, please post as much information as you can, including the site you are trying to connect to and hardware configuration.

If you are using an SMP machine, you will need to use the EXECMODE utility to bind MOZILLA.EXE to a single processor. We are looking at this problem.

Thanks for your support!

Warpstock Europe in Belgium - Filip Molčan (molcanf@os2.cz)

The Warpstock Europe Event Team is pleased to announce that Europe's annual OS/2 and eComStation conference is coming back for the third time, this time crossing the border to Belgium. Warpstock Europe 2001 will be held at the KH Limburg' College in Diepenbeek, Belgium on November 2-4, 2001. OS/2 and eComStation users from all over Europe - or anywhere else for that matter, are invited to come to Belgium this year to attend Warpstock Europe 2001. For more information about Warpstock Europe 2001, go to http://warpstock.os2.org.

Styler/2 1.6.4 - Filip Molčan (molcanf@os2.cz)

Finally, Alessandro Cantatore has released an updated version of his incredible WPS enhancer, Styler/2, aka SmartWindows. A special edition of Styler/2 with minor features is a major part of the coming eCS' new look and feel, so if you want some eye candy plus tons of functional enhancements right now, you should take a look at this. Moreover, with this version Alessandro has put several language specific versions on Hobbes, which cover English, Italian, Russian, and German. Besides this, the enhancements over the prior version are as follows:

Various minor bug fixes, performance improvements and updates. Hopefully some previously misbehaving applications now should work correctly. New titlebar bitmaps A new titlebar button theme by Don Eitner A new close titlebar button by Marco Cassili

Alessandro is currently still working at Styler/2 version 2. He's completely re-writing it, and a first alpha version of Styler/2 v.2 should be available in few days. I am running Styler/2 for about two years now and I surely never want have to miss it again! Please note that Styler/2 is Shareware and will disable itself after the trial period has exceeded. Please consider supporting the Styler/2 development if you like this product!

Warpstock 2001 Travel Update - Filip Molčan (molcanf@os2.cz)

The biggest OS/2 event in Europe is less than 4 months away, so it is time to start planning your journey to Warpstock Europe 2001, especially if you have a busy schedule in November and you don't want to miss one day of this exciting three-day conference.

"This year's event site is perfectly located for most visitors", says Team Coordinator John Bijnens. "With Hasselt (Diepenbeek) we have found a location that can be reached by car in less than one hour from most major cities in Belgium and in just a few hours from major cities in The Netherlands, Germany and France." Web master & Technical Coordinator Johan Driesmans says : "We are expecting visitors from all over Europe and even people from other continents to attend Warpstock Europe this year, and we want to provide them with an overview of their traveling options to help them plan their journey."

Most international flights to Belgium arrive at Zaventem (BRU - Brussels), which is located approximately 70 km from the event site. If you are planning to rent a car and drive to the event site yourself, you will find several car rental companies at the airport terminal. Complete driving directions from Brussels to Hasselt will be made available on the Warpstock Europe web site. There are also some flights to regional airports like Gosselies (Charleroi), Deurne (Antwerp), Bierset (Liege) and Beek (Maastricht, NL).
