LANTime/2 was created to synchronize the internal clocks of OS/2 IBM LAN servers.
Since the internal clocks of servers started as 'Additional Servers' do not synchronize with the domain controller after server startup, and multiple domains are not interconnected, PC clocks quickly drift apart. Entries in log files based on network events receive different timestamps despite occurring simultaneously. This unnecessarily complicates the process of determining which network events are attributable to a particular cause. Processes that modify or create groups of files on different servers almost simultaneously can use different time entries.
LAN requesters, which are synchronized with the domain controller in the default configuration, also receive an inaccurate time from it. This is particularly annoying when users have to repeatedly adjust their PC clocks.
