John Soyring works on all aspects of IBM's global personal computer operating system business. He formerly held IBM executive positions for worldwide OEM sales, strategic relations, and product development. He was director of IBM's programming center in Austin, Texas where he led the development of the OS/2 family of products, including: the operating systems; database products such as DB2; local and wide area communications products; and distributed systems management products.
During his 20-year career at IBM, he has held a variety of engineering, programming, marketing, sales and managerial positions, including heading IBM's development of software for the worldwide retail banking industry. John joined IBM in 1976 after graduating from Michigan Technological University with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. While working at IBM he completed graduate studies at the University of Minnesota and the State University of New York in electrical engineering, computer science and business administration.
