Installing under Warp 3

The following info should work for version of OS/2 from Warp v3 through Merlin's June beta (build 17f):

Get the latest OS/2 driver for the SB16, SB32, and AWE32 (PnP and non-PnP versions). You MUST run this with the -d option, or it will not work. The recommended install steps for Warp v3 are as follows:

  • Install MMOS2 and the drivers that come with it (AWE 32 drivers for AWE 32 for SB 32, SB 16 Drivers for any other form of the SB16 (including the Vibra 16 cards).
  • Extract this file to a temp directory of a floppy disk. Again, you MUST use the -d option or the install will only give the illusion of success.
  • Run the install and select the proper card (AWE 32 drivers for AWE 32 for SB 32, SB 16 Drivers for any other form of the SB16 (including the Vibra 16 cards).
  • Shut down and reboot. It should work flawlessly if you do it like this.

Note that after installing these drivers, OS/2 Warp v3 fix packs will attempt to update the sbawed2.sys file (and I assume the sb16d2.sys as well). They will prompt for confirmation, saying that the installed file is newer than the one in the fix pack. DO NOT let them overwrite the file. This will revert to an older version of the driver.
