Return to The Hardware Shelf
Last update: 6th November, 1995
Symptoms
Large variety of SYS errors occurring randomly during graphical portion of installation and normal use of Warp. Errors are typically of the "Application can not continue" type.
Hardware
Hard drive prefetch enabled in PhoenixBIOS Version 4.04 (possibly others)
Problem
Warp bypasses the system BIOS and uses its own drivers to control the hard drive. When the "prefetch" option is turned on in the BIOS, the hard drive returns unexpected data to Warp, whose drivers aren't aware that prefetch is enabled. This causes any data read from the hard drive to have a chance of being misread.
Procedure
Disable the prefetch option in the BIOS.
Notes
This problem seems to occur most often in Selective Install.
