  1. What Media Vision sound boards are supported by OS/2 2.1?
    a. ProAudio Spectrum 16
    b. ProAudio Studio
    c. Fusion CD 16
    d. ProAudio Spectrum Plus
    e. Fusion CD
    f. Fusion CD 16E
    g. CDPCXL
  2. How to enable Media Vision sound support in OS/2 2.1 once the operating system has been installed.
    a. For CD version: Access the OS/2 2.1 CD and change directory to the MMPM2 directory. From the MMP2 directory, type MINSTALL and press enter. This will invoke the MultiMedia Presentation Manager setup. From the list of options to install, choose "Software Motion Video", "ProAudio Spectrum 16" and "CD Audio". This will install the appropriate driver files, modify the CONFIG.SYS, create the MMOS2 directory, and create the MultiMedia icon on the OS/2 desktop.
    b. For the diskette version: Place the first MultiMedia Presentation Manager diskette into the appropriate disk drive and type MINSTALL. Choose the same options listed above unless the system does not contain a CD ROM drive. The "CD Audio" option is not necessary for systems that do not have a CD-ROM drive. If the system does have a CD-ROM drive, CD-ROM support should be installed during the initial OS/2 2.1 installation. If a CD-ROM is added to the system after OS/2 installation, CD-ROM support is enabled by running "Selective Install" in the OS/2 System icon. In "Selective Install", choose CD-ROM support. For instructions on installing a CD-ROM with the ProAudio Spectrum 16, ProAudio Spectrum Plus, or Fusion CD, see the README.DOC with TMV1SCSI.EXE. For instructions on installing CD-ROM support for the Fusion CD 16, see the README.DOC with SONYB31A.EXE.
  3. How to install Media Vision sound support in an OS/2 2.1 DOS session.
    a. Open a full screen or DOS window and run the DOS install diskette that comes with the board. This will create the ProAudio, ProStudio, or Fusion directory with supporting files, just as if the install were being run in standard DOS.
    b. Click on the chosen DOS Session icon with the right mouse button which will bring up a menu containing "OPEN". Click on the arrow in the "OPEN" box which will invoke the "Session Options" window. Click on "Settings" and from the next group of options, click on "Session". From the "Session option, click on "DOS Settings", which will display a list of features available.
    c. Click on "DOS Device" which will bring up an options command line. IN the command line, type in the path and driver parameters. Example:
    C:\PROAUDIO\MVSOUND.SYS D:3 Q:11 S:1,220,1,5 :0 j:1 T:1 W:1
    This will load the MVSOUND.SYS driver when the DOS session is invoked. DOS software that utilizes sound can be run in the window with full access to the sound board.
  4. How to install Media Vison Sound Support in a WIN-OS/2 Session.
    a. If a separate Windows driver diskette is available, such as Windows Drivers version 1.45, open the WIN-OS/2 session, bring down "FILE" and choose the "RUN" option. In the command line, enter A: or B: setup. When prompted for the Windows directory, use the path C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2 substituting "C" for the drive letter in your system OS/2 is installed on.
    b. If the provided install diskette in DOS and Windows combined, open a DOS session and run the install program. When prompted for the Windows directory, ensure that the path used is C:\OS2\MSDOS\WINOS2. After installation is complete return to the OS/2 desktop and start a WIN-OS/2 session.
    c. If the Media Vision tool group is not present, create the group file with the "FILE" and "NEW" options. The Group file is MV.GRP and is located in the ProAudio/ProStudio/Fusion directory. If the individual tools icons are not created by this, make them individually by using the "FILE" and "NEW" options and program items. Pocket Mixer is PMIX.EXE, Pocket Recorder is PREC.EXE, Pro Mixer is PROMIX.EXE and Pocket CD is PKCD.EXE. These files will be located in the respective Media Vision directory.
    d. Verify that the Media Vision drivers are listed under "Drivers" section of the "Control Panel". if they are not, go to "Add" and then "Updated or Unlisted Drivers". When prompted for the path, use C:\PROAUDIO or C:\FUSION, depending on the directory name which install created. This will bring up a list of drivers which can be added. From the list, choose Media Vsion ProAduio Spectrum Mixer, Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum WAV/MIDI/AUX and the Voyetra OPL3 drivers. If the driver names are not brought up by this procedure, they can be manually added to the SYSTEM.INI file.
Under the [MCI] group, add MIXER=MCIMIXER.DRV.
Under the [DRIVERS] group, add:
WAVE=MVPROAUD.DRV
AUX=MVPROAUD.DRV
MIDI=OPL3.DRV
MIDI1=MVPROAUD.DRV
MIXER=MVMIXER.DRV.
Then add the following new groups:
[MULTIMEDIA.SETUP] under which you put
AUDIO=MVPROAUD.DRV 0,0,0
and
[MVPROAUD.DRV] under which you put
DMA=3
IRQ=11.
Using the same IRQ that MVPRODD.SYS is using will work well.
This will install full Media Vision Sound Support in WIN-OS/2 sessions.
