Comments:

The VLSI Songbird (aka VL82C829) is a new (as of early 1997) chipset which is touted as being PCI-capable while maintaining compatibility with ISA standards. It's unclear to me whether this means the chipset can be used in PCI and ISA designs, or whether it's a PCI-only chipset that allows for SoundBlaster and/or Business Audio compatibility modes. The VLSI web site also makes no mention of OS/2 support, and my e-mail on the topic has not been acknowledged. If you're interested in a PCI-based sound card with OS/2 support, I suggest you contact VLSI and POLITELY request information on OS/2 drivers for their Songbird product, and information on manufacturers who may be using it.
