Network specialists will learn how to integrate the functions of Novell NetWare** Requesters and IBM LAN Requesters. Included is the use of OS/2 LAN Requester, NetWare Requester for OS/2, DOS LAN Requester and NetWare DOS Requester. Hands-on lab exercises allow students to configure application environments requiring remote printers, OS/2 2.x Virtual DOS Machines, or Windows support. Material covers important differences between OS/2 LAN Server and NetWare, and examines typical configurations within each network environment. This course does not include System Administrator tasks.

Who Should Take This Course

Experienced administrators or technical support personnel responsible for the installation and support of workstations in a heterogeneous OS/2 LAN Server and NetWare environment.

What You Will Learn

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the machine and protocol requirements for client coexistence
  • Install an IBM DOS LAN Requester on a DOS Workstation, with/without Microsoft Windows**, such that it will coexist with the NetWare shell
  • Install, configure and concurrently use OS/2 LAN Requester and NetWare Requester for OS/2 on an OS/2 2.x workstation
  • Install, configure and use NetWare Requester running in a Virtual DOS Machine (VDM), while concurrently

running OS/2 LAN Requester under OS/2 2.x

  • Install and use a NetWare remote printer on an OS/2 workstation
  • List the differences, benefits and concerns when accessing multiple server environments

Prerequisites

Before taking this course, you should be comfortable with the administration and installation of both OS/2 LAN Server and NetWare. This experience can be obtained by attending one of the following LAN Server sequences and one of the NetWare sequences:

Sequence 1: OS/2 LAN Server Workstation Planning and Installation Workshop (G4370)

Sequence 2: OS/2 LAN Server Administration Workshop I (G4360), OS/2 LAN Server Administration Workshop - II (G4560)

Sequence 3: Novell NetWare Concepts and Products Overview (G3808), Novell NetWare Installation, Configuration Workshop (G3809)

Sequence 4: NetWare Version 3.11: System Manager (G0505)

Equivalent on-the-job experience or certification as a Novell Certified Network Engineer (CNE) may be substituted for the above courses.
