Abstract

Learn how to tune for performance in the OS/2 LAN Server 2.0/3.0 environment. The course discusses the various components which influence performance and how they should be configured. SPM/2 will be used to detect performance problems and to determine if changes are effective.

Length

  • 4 Days - Hands-on Labs

Who Should Take This Course

OS/2 LAN Server administrators responsible for tuning in the OS/2 LAN Server environment.

What You Will Learn

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Discuss approaches to performance tuning
  • Discuss the various uses of a server and how this affects tuning
  • Describe network buffers and how they work with different types of file accesses
  • Determine appropriate values for the performance tuning parameters in the IBMLAN.INI on servers
  • Determine appropriate values for the performance parameters in the IBMLAN.INI or DOSLAN.INI on requesters
  • Determine which parameters to change in the PROTOCOL.INI and CONFIG.SYS files
  • Use SPM/2 to detect performance problems and to determine if a change was effective
  • Describe other available tools and their uses

Prerequisites

Before taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the various OS/2 file systems
  • Distinguish between capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Describe the relationship between the IBMLAN.INI, PROTOCOL.INI and CONFIG.SYS files
  • Perform basic administration skills quickly and easily
  • Use the full set of OS/2 LAN Server NET commands

These skills can be developed by taking OS/2 LAN Server Administration Workshop - II (G4560).
