This program will review and update a previous presentation on the AIX
Object Data Manager (ODM), a facility which uses an object-oriented
approach to data management within the AIX operating system. The
presentation begins with a recap of the ODM - what it includes and how
it is implemented. In addition we will discuss how the ODM Customized
Object classes are created using the predefined Object Classes. An
in-depth look at the Logical Volume Manager (LVM) definitions in the
ODM will be explored and finally a discussion involving an undocumented
backup/recovery feature provided in AIX 3.2.

in their organizations, Dealers and Business Partners.

After announcing OS/2 2.0, IBM activated a new OS/2 BBS, free to all
registered technical coordinators. This presentation reviews the BBS
functions including forums, submitting defects, downloading CSDs, and
 software library features.

IBM's Integrated Configuration and Pricing Application (ICPA), a
software library highlight, will also be demonstrated. ICPA allows easy
configuration and pricing of PS/2 systems with adapter options and
 peripherals.

The material covered will show customers how to access and use this new
 IBM support offering.

            experience with OS/2.
AUDIENCE: Workstation Technical Coordinators, SEs, Dealers, Business
            Partners.

This program presents the structure of OS/2 2.0, allowing participants
to view and learn how OS/2 2.0 works and how it can help technical
organizations. The program begins with the base function, kernel, and
subsystem structures including multitasking, protection, 32-bit pro-
gramming, dynamic link libraries (DLLs), multiple virtual DOS machines
 (MVDMs) architecture, and more.

The second part of the program focuses on the Presentation Manager
Workplace Shell and the user interface, including windowing, graphical
programming interface (GPI) graphics, the graphics engine, display and
printer drivers, and other components. The presentation combines demon-
strations which will take the participants deep into OS/2 2.0's inter-
 nal structure.

This program will discuss factors effecting the performance end users
can expect to see when running OS/2, DOS or Windows applications on
desktop computers, including Micro Channel, ISA and EISA architectures.
The synergy between Micro Channel architecture and OS/2 2.0 will be
demonstrated using programs anyone might run; two diskettes and a wrap
connector for the parallel port. The program prints and transfers files
on any PC system which can run OS/2 2.0. The presenter will explain why
single tasking benchmarks, commonly used to analyze systems, are obsolete
and misleading in a multitasking environment.

OS/2 2.0 uniquely defines concurrent I/O capabilities that can signifi-
cantly enhance normal desktop or server performance and capability.
Since DOS and Windows presently restrict most I/O to sequential opera-
tion only, these capabilities are best exploited on many current Micro
Channel systems. Micro Channel architecture's superior ability to
support OS/2 concurrent I/O activity is shown as a dramatic performance
improvement over a similarly configured ISA system.

The second part of the program focuses on how concurrent I/O activity
impacts overall system efficiency in Micro Channel and ISA systems using
OS/2 2.0. The program will conclude with a live Q&A session.
