Description
USER PRODUCTIVITY
PERFORMANCE
OS/2 Extended Edition Version 1.3 performs system functions
faster than OS/2 EE V1.2 in memory-constrained environments. A
memory-constrained environment is caused when applications over
commit system memory and disk swapping is necessary.
For many applications the improved program load facility of OS/2
Extended Edition V1.3 provides a performance enhancement of two
to three times faster than OS/2 EE V1.2 when loading programs
from Servers to Requesters. Enhancements for any given
application may vary outside of this range. The performance is
influenced by the amount of code the application preloads at
start up time.
The minimum memory requirement is reduced from 3.5 MB to 3.0 MB.
This minimum memory will allow a Communications Manager
application, such as Terminal Emulation or LAN Requester, to
operate concurrently with a DOS Compatibility mode application.
Environments that require more than 3.0 MB of memory include
using the Database Manager, multiple communication protocols, or
large OS/2 applications. Users should ensure that they have the
capability to expand their memory beyond 3.0 MB.
INSTALLABILITY
The Communications Manager Batch Configuration Utility used to
create, delete and modify profiles has been enhanced to add SNA
Gateway, and extend 3270 emulation, SNA/APPC, SDLC, and LAN
environments. System Administrators can take advantage of these
facilities to make configuration in the new areas more
streamlined.
The Print Manager simplifies the installation of printers and
printer device drivers. It contains the interface to a new
industry standard Print Spooler that is fast, efficient, and
simplifies printing over a Local Area Network.
OS/2 Installation now allows optional base operating system
functions to be selectively written to disk. This permits a
reduction in fixed disk requirements and allows additional fixed
disk space for user programs and data.
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
FUNCTIONALITY
OS/2 Extended Edition V1.3 includes Adobe Type Manager and will
be shipped with IBM's core set of fonts. Adobe Type Manager
accepts Adobe Type 1 outline fonts to provide high quality
typographic text in a full range of sizes and styles to all
supported printers and displays. This provides, "What You See Is
What You Get (WYSIWYG) technology for OS/2 Presentation Manager
(PM) applications. Over 600 different Typefaces available in
Adobe Type 1 Font format can now be used with OS/2.
The core fonts are Times New Roman, (R)3 Times New Roman Bold,
Times New Roman Italic, Times New Roman Bold Italic, Helvetica,
(TM)4 Helvetica Bold, Helvetica Italic, Helvetica Bold Italic,
Courier, Courier Bold, Courier Italic, Courier Bold Italic and
Symbol font.
Adobe Type Manager requires no new application programming
interfaces and works with existing OS/2 applications that use
Presentation Manager Outline Fonts.
AVIO fonts are provided allowing a user to select a suitable
command line window font to match the system display.
The Communications Manager component of OS/2 EE has several
enhancements including the ability for ACDI calls to be
re-directed across a LAN. This allows OS/2 EE ASCII terminal
emulation users to use the modem and line pooling facilities of
the IBM LAN Asynchronous Connection Server Version 2.0. For more
details, refer to PLET ZP90-0387 dated 5 September 1990.
Etherand LAN support for the LUA (LU 0, 1, 2, and 3) protocols
will help enable solutions for financial and other industry
customers that require the combination of LUA applications over
etherand LANs.
3270 emulation users benefit from the additional AVIO display
fonts. This allows greater choice to match the application and
display environments, and to more fully utilize the entire
screen.
OS/2 Extended Edition V1.3 has support for Type 2.1 (T2.1) Nodes.
A workstation using OS/2 EE V1.3 can function as a T2.1 node
attached to another T2.1 node in the non-subarea network
environment. This workstation, when functioning as a peripheral
node, can communicate with an SNA subarea network using the T2.1
protocol if the proper levels of NCP and VTAM are used. T2.1
node support allows parallel LU6.2 sessions.
The DOS Database Requester supports the IBM Token-Ring, IBM PC
Network, and ethernet LAN environments. Either the LAN Server
V1.3 or the LAN Support Program are required for ethernet LAN
support. The DOS Database Requester Workstation requires the
installation of the LAN Support Program V1.2 and DOS 3.3 or later
to support the NETBIOS session used to communicate with the OS/2
Extended Edition Database Manager server.

ACCESS OF EXTERNAL RESOURCES ACROSS DOMAINS
Cross domain access of resources can be accomplished through
external resources definitions, which is a full screen interface
function. Or through the use of appropriate API's, or by using
explicit NET SHARE and NET USE commands. Once a user's ID and
PASSWORD are validated, that user can access resources outside
of their logged on domain pro- vided the network administrator(s)
have shared the resources and pro- vided the appropriate access
permission.

Adapter testing
National Software Testing Laboratories, Inc. (NSTL) is an
independent laboratory which has indicated to IBM that it plans
to offer an OEM ethernet LAN adapter compatibility testing
service for OS/2 Extended Edition (EE) V1.3. Manufacturers of
Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS)-compliant ethernet
LAN adapters will be able, for a fee, to submit their adapters
and NDIS drivers to NSTL for compatibility testing with software
supporting ethernet DIX V2.0 and IEEE 802.3 protocols provided in
the Communication Manager function of OS/2 EE V1.3. OS/2 EE V1.3
Communications Manager's implementation of NDIS is based on the
Microsoft publication, "LAN Manager Network Driver Interface
Specification, Version 1.0.1", dated May 4, 1988. The specific
details of IBM' s implementation will be available from IBM upon
request to IBM Corporation, Department D53, 11400 Burnet Road,
Austin, Texas, 78758. Any claims of compatibility with OS/2
Extended Edition V1.3 will be made by each OEM ethernet LAN
adapter manufacturer and/or NSTL. NSTL has advised IBM that NSTL
plans to announce availability of this service in the fourth
quarter of 1990. Inquiries regarding the service should be
directed to NSTL at (215) 941-9600. NSTL certification of an
OEM's NDIS-compliant ethernet LAN adapters is not meant in any
way to constitute an endorsement of the OEM's products by IBM,
and IBM will not warrant nor provide technical or defect support
for the claims made by such OEM or NSTL.

MEMORY WORKSHEET
The minimum memory requirement for an Operating System/2 mode
only environment is 3.0MB. This minimum memory will allow users
in Operating System/2 mode to execute a Communications Manager
terminal emulation application, and an application program, such
as a spreadsheet application comparable to existing IBM DOS
applications. Users should ensure that they have the capability
to expand their memory beyond 3.0MB. Environments likely to
require incremental memory include concurrent IBM DOS-mode
applications, multiple communications protocols, or concurrent
communications and database applications. PS/2 Model 70 (8570)
Models E61, 121 and PS/2 Model 80 (8580) Models 111 and 311 uses
128KB of memory for hardware system use. Memory planning
information is available in the "Information and Planning Guide".
The following worksheets can be used to help determine capacity
requirements for a particular OS/2 configuration.

Notes:
(1) Automatically installed but removable by changing the
PROTECTONLY=NO statement in the CONFIG.SYS file to
PROTECTONLY=YES. This memory is optionally available to
OS/2 applications whenever the DOS mode is in the
background.
(2) This additional system memory allows better performance
for transient conditions such as program loading,
program termination and print spooling.
(3) If the 3270 connection is LAN, SDLC, or X.25 (that is,
not a DFT coax connection), also include APPC
(4) APPC is a prerequisite for this function. (Add the APPC
recommended memory to the total only once.)
(5) Concurrent file transfer function requires 0.3Mb for each
session
(6) Additional memory for Database buffer pool or sort heaps
may be required depending on the user's workload
(7) Includes the necessary Database Services code.
Communications Manager Base and APPC are also required
for Remote Date Services.
(8) Communications Manager base is a prerequisite for LAN
Requester. If the LAN Requester full screen panels are
not used (that is, only the command line interface is
used) then reduce the 0.4MB to 0.1 MB.
(9) This depends on the installation parameters. Refer to the
"IBM OS/2 LAN Server Network Administrator's Reference"
for more information.
(10) Provided by the supplier of the application
(11) Dependent on the application and the user
To estimate memory requirements, add the recommended memory size
for the operating system base to the size for each installed
function and application, plus an allowance for user data buffer
requirements.
The numbers shown in the above worksheet give the recommended
memory size in MB for concurrent operation of designated OS/2
functions. These numbers reflect the working set of the OS/2
functions listed, not the total size of all the code and data
areas that comprise the functions. The quantities shown assume
an acceptable degree of swapping. Refer to 'Memory Management
Techniques' in the "OS/2 Information and Planning Guide" for a
description of the method used to develop these quantities.
The memory requirement is less if the user does not execute all
installed functions and applications concurrently. In that case,
the required memory size is the sum of the base operating system
and the particular functions and applications the user wishes to
execute concurrently, plus an allowance for user data. Using
less than the recommended memory size may increase the time to
switch from one function or application to another, reduce
keystroke responsiveness, reduce throughput, and increase the
size of the swap data file (identified in the fixed disk
estimating worksheet).
FIXED DISK WORKSHEET
A minimum of 30Mb of fixed disk is required on one or more disk
drives. This will allow a user in Operating System/2 mode to
execute a Communications Manager application, and an application
program, such as a spreadsheet application comparable to existing
IBM DOS applications. Users should ensure that they have the
capability to expand their fixed disk beyond 30Mb. In addition
to space for user-written programs and data files, some examples
of environments likely to increase disk requirements are
concurrent installation of the Communications and Database
Managers, and the extent to which execution of concurrent
applications occurs (requires segment swap areas). In these
cases, users should ensure that they have the capability to
expand their fixed disk beyond 30Mb. Fixed disk planning
information is provided in "The Information and Planning Guide".
