OS/2 Zone Magazine Editorial Notes - 1996-Sep-23
Hi all, I've just gotten back to normal after PC'96 (read about it on our misc page!) and the house is vaguely ok again. So I can get back to doing some real work at last. Firstly I've got some new articles from Dan Bridges , yeup that's right, just when you thought it was safe to sit back, there's an even more in depth look at the HPFS coming. I've also got permission to reprint an advanced REXX article I spotted, however I'm going to have to re locate it as my drive got trashed during prep work for the show.
I'm also in the process of reviewing a range of graphic packages including the new NeoN range and am waiting for a copy to Merlin to review as well.
Other big news is that Oliver Frankilin from Frankson Information Management has negotiated a deal with BMT Micro to create a BMT (Pacific) registration site here in Australia. Stay tuned for further info as it comes to hand.
We also now have at least one Gamma of Merlin floating around in Australia, I don't know whose got it but I have been getting various "Underground" reports from people about it and what it looks like. From what I am being told it's looking very good and we show be seeing the finished product some time in October.
The Netscape announcement of Netscape Navigator for OS/2 is also causing a far bit of interest in the OS/2 community. The question most people seem to be asking is "will it kill Explorer ?" and the answer seems to be yes. Mainly because Explorer would require too much work to bring it into line. However I'm not that convinced that it should be laid to rest that soon. Firstly because there is no guarantee that the Netscape port will be any good, and secondly I would to see it still there from the point of view of having some competition for Navigator. BTW, Navigator apparently will also fully support Merlin's Voice-Type, thus allowing you to navigate the web with laying a finger on your keyboard.
If there are any web authors out there who have some experience in authoring and would like to help out on Zone (for free, I'm not rich!) could you please drop me a line as I simply can't keep up with everything that is going on these days and desperately need others to help.
Type on dudes . . .
