PsiConv/PM - Filip Molèan (molcanf@seznam.cz)

PsiConv/PM is a Presentation Manager frontend for use with the PsiConv utility (Linux software ported to OS/2 by Andrei A. Porodko) that lets you convert text and graphics files from your Psion PDA (series 5, Revo or better) to common PC file formats.

PsiConv/PM allows you to convert Psion files using a convenient graphical interface. It doesn't do any conversions itself. It just keeps you away from the command prompt and sends the proper command string to the PsiConv utility.

PsiConv/PM was made using good old VisproRexx Bronze 2.1. A visual development tool for REXX that was developped by HockWare way back in 1995.

Both PsiConv and PsiConv/PM are available as freeware. Both utilities can be downloaded from the 'Psion to OS/2 Connection' website.

New kernels for OS/2 - Filip Molèan (molcanf@seznam.cz)

IBM has released the 0508 Kernel releases from testcase now officialy

Warp 4/WSeB/MCP/ACP Kernels updated

On May 31, 2001 IBM OS/2 Fix Distribution released updated files for the various kernels. They contain fixes since

xr_e002/xr_m015/mcp/acp:

New TrapDump Bug Fix: JR15030: TRAPDUMP QUERY doesn't show PD

File: DF0508.ZIP SES drivers, See README.SES for details.

File: SES0330.ZIP File versions :

WSeb/ACP SMP (D is debug version)
         SMP0508.ZIP
         SMP0508D.ZIP
    WSeB/ACP Uni/MCP (D is debug version)
         UNI0508.ZIP
         UNI0508D.ZIP
    Warp4 (D is debug version)
         W40508.ZIP
         W40508D.ZIP

New function:

1.Support for 64m memory using int15 func e820. Note, this support is enabled ONLY for Intel Pentium Pro or
later, or non-Intel Pentium-class machines. This is done in an effort to prevent problems on older PCs.
2.The presence of \os2\boot\os2norev.$$$ suppresses the display of internal revision during boot.
3.Adding "EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE" to config.sys will allow device drivers, etc., access to the memory above
16mb early in boot. Previously, this was only available after DD and IFS init was completed. This has various
    implications when enabled:
1.AHA154X.ADD may do bad things to your system. Don't even enable if using.
2.There may be some settings of HPFS386 cache that are incompatible.
3.Trap messages will now give the module name instead of the device name.

For example, "Exception in module: CLOCK01" instead of "Exception in Device Driver: CLOCK$".

4.Traps in 32 bit code now show the modname, too
5.Systems with a 486SX chip running FP15 will function correctly. Note, they will NOT work with ACP or
    (necessarily) on MCP.
6.SESDD32 will now work correctly (I hope) for both uni and smp

Bug Fixes:

JR13335: Some VDMs won't run, complaining of too-long command lines
JR15194: XCOPY fails with SYS1186 or SYS1192 on (at least) MO drives
JR15038: Trap 8 in h_DeviceHelpDM running an app from a tcpbeui drive
JR15229: Files left open after ERROR_TOO_MANY_OPEN_FILES returned to app
PJ27676: Causes hangs on some systems running UNI or W4 kernels
PJ27554: Hang or (on allstrict) trap 3 on SMP (only) during beeps
PJ27678: SMP kernels could not be RIPL-booted. As part of this, there is a new config.sys parameter
I13PAGES= available. Adding I13PAGES=1 to config.sys (note, no SET) reduces the memory usage of the
mini VDM processes used by ibm1s506.add and the GRADD drivers. This becomes important in RIPL-boot
    situations.
PJ27677: SMP systems hang with multiple threads of same process entering a critical section (affects ADSM
    client)
PJ27757: Trap 000e running Theseus/4 (note, theseus4.exe may still end up with a sys3175, but at least the
    system doesn't crash).
    PJ27736: Trap in _PLD_WriteReturnCode
PJ27777: Set BEGINLIBPATH= (in config.sys ONLY) may be ignored. Also, it would lead to a bogus copy of
    BEGINLIBPATH= in the environment.
PJ27906: Trap 000e in pvwRegKrnlInstance running SPM/2 (may also cause unknown odd behavior in other
    performance monitors).
PJ27919: Complete system hang running some apps (same as JR12136)

See README in the zip for Install Instructions.

Disclaimer: These interim fixes will be supported by IBM until the next fixpack is available or until superceded by a newer interim fix. At the discretion of IBM, you may be required to revert to GA (i.e. MCP/ACP/fixpack) code to pursue specific support issues.

Works with AFPL Ghostscript 7.00 - 7.99 (GSview checks the Ghostscript version number).
            Changes in version 4.0:
Uses new Ghostscript API on Windows, OS/2 and Linux.
                 pstoedit for OS/2.
                 Bug fixes:
Anti-aliased display is now the default.
File | Convert now processes only the requested pages.
See gvcnews.txt in the GSview sources for more detailed change notes.

GSview was written by Russell Lang at Ghostgum Software Pty Ltd.

GSview 4.0 should be used with AFPL Ghostscript 7.00 or later.

LSMT v2.13c - Frans Morre (Frans.Morre@OS2ug.be)

Version 2.13c of the LAN Server Management Tools is uploaded to Hobbes.

It's now at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/lsmt213c.zip and goes to http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/network/lansrv/lsmt213c.zip

These REXX based tools will let you detect software levels and some hardware of servers within a domain. It also gets all the accounting info, which you can then modify in ASCII or within any spreadsheet.

As uploaded, it is the current version of a package developed by Alain Rykaert since 1995, and older versions of LSMT have been bundled with RedBooks in the past. While command line based, there is an optional WPS based interface, and the whole is a nice example of REXX programming.

Quesa Project - Porting Suggestion - Martin Iturbide (martin@os2world.com)

Hi, Richard Turner has sent me some information about a project that can be ported to OS/2. The Project is called "Quesa" and its an OpenSource 3D Graphics library.

Quesa is a high level 3D graphics library, released as Open Source under the LGPL, which offers binary and source level compatibility with Apple's QuickDraw  3D API. Quesa does not contain any Apple source code, and was developed without access to Apple's QD3D implementation.

QD3D supports both retained and immediate mode rendering, an extensible file format, plug-in renderers, a wide range of high level geometries, hierarchical models, and a consistent and object-orientated API.

Quesa can sit on top other lower-level APIs (such as OpenGL or Direct3D), and provide the 'scene graph' level of organisation that these APIs typically lack.

New PMView 2.30 - Filip Molèan (molcanf@os2.cz)

A new version of PMView has been release on 6/25/01. The following features are new in PMView 2000 v2.30:

-SFF (Structured Fax File) file format support (read/write) -Playback of Animated GIF files -The following bugs and problems are fixed in PMView 2000 v2.30: -File Sequencer: Using PgUp/PgDn in PMView's main window when the most recently viewed file has been deleted may cause PMView to crash. -Printing: When the print unit is set to inches or millimeters the minimum printable size is restricted to 1 inch or 1 millimeter respectively. -File Open/Save dialogs: Deselection of files in "Detail" view does not work correctly when the "Sticky Select" option is enabled. (When you click on a file it is selected, but a second click on the same file does not deselect it). -File Open/Save dialogs: When opening the dialog, PMView tries to access the diskette drive. (This behavior/problem was not present in versions prior to v2.14) -File Open/Save dialogs: Dragging files and dropping them back in the source folder causes PMView to crash (Win95/98/ME). -Slideshow: Selecting multiple files in the "File Open" dialog and pressing "Open" to create a slideshow causes the main window to lose focus.

General: If PMView is installed in a folder that contains spaces in the folder name, there will be an error message in new windows launched with the "File-New-PMView Window" function.

The Warpstock Board of Directors and Warpstock 2001 Event Team are pleased to announce that registrations for both attendees and exhibitors are now being accepted at the Warpstock website, http://www.warpstock.org. Individuals can also register for the Saturday night social event.

The fifth annual Warpstock event, which will be held October 6-8 in Toronto, promises to be the biggest and best OS/2  event ever. The event will feature six tracks of presentations, demos, and seminars. Event organizers have worked hard this year to expand the event to three days while continuing to hold registration cost to a minimum.

Payment can be made in one of three ways, check, credit card, or direct bank transfer. Checks, accompanied by an order form, should be mailed. The address and the form are available on the web site. Credit card payments and direct bank transfers are handled online, using the PayPal system.
