OS/2 WARP APTIVA UPDATE

Before starting, please check this Aptiva(*) update package. You should have an Aptiva Applications Program Update diskette.

If your package does not contain the correct diskette, or if you have problems following the instructions given below, call the IBM(*) Technical Support Center. Their telephone number is in your Service and Support brochure found in the OS/2(*) Warp package.

Congratulations on the purchase of your IBM Aptiva Personal Computer and OS/2 Warp. Because your Aptiva came installed with Microsoft(**) Windows(**) 3.1, slight modifications must be made to your computer before you can install OS/2 Warp. The list below previews the procedures you need to follow in order to modify the settings for the software on your Aptiva.

  • Procedure 1: Determine the model number of your Aptiva
  • Procedure 2: Disable Rapid Resume and Read Prefetch
  • Procedure 3: Install OS/2 Warp
  • Procedure 4: Run the UPDATE.CMD program from the Aptiva Applications Programs Update diskette
  • Procedure 5: Set Up Rapid Resume

NOTE: If you have already installed OS/2 Warp, go directly to Procedure 4.

PROCEDURE 1 - DETERMINING THE MODEL NUMBER OF YOUR APTIVA

You need to follow several procedures in this update booklet, depending on the model number of your Aptiva. To determine the model of your Aptiva, look inside the fold-down door or the sliding panel on the front of your system unit. Locate the model number of your computer.

You should have one of these model numbers:

  • Model 310 (2144-22P)
  • Model 330 (2144-24P)
  • Model 335 (2144-25P)
  • Model 338 (2144-27P)
  • Model 343 (2144-29P)
  • Model 350 (2168-26P)
  • Model 510 (2168-62P)
  • Model 530 (2144-66P)
  • Model 535 (2144-67P)
  • Model 710 (2144-82P)
  • Model 712 (2144-83P)
  • Model 730 (2144-86P)

Please make a note of your model number.

Go to Procedure 2.

PROCEDURE 2 - DISABLING RAPID RESUME AND READ PREFETCH

Your Aptiva came equipped with the Configuration Utility program. This program lets you view and change important information about your computer. You might have used the Configuration Utility to set up your computer to use the RAPID RESUME and READ PREFETCH options.

  • If you are sure Rapid Resume and Read Prefetch have not been enabled, go to Procedure 3.
  • If you have already set up your computer for Rapid Resume and Read Prefetch, you must disable it before installing OS/2 Warp. If you have an Aptiva model 710 (2144-82P), 712 (2144-83P), or 730 (2144-86P), go to Procedure 2A.
  • If you have any other Aptiva model, go to Step 1 below.
  1. Close any programs that you are currently using.
  2. Turn your computer off and then on. The IBM blue logo screen will appear. When the following symbol appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, press the F1 key:
