Objectives

The IBM OS/2 Software (Enterprise Communications) Professional Certification Test will be composed of the following objectives. Certification candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency in this test by answering questions that evaluate their knowledge of facts, concepts, and processes that are required to complete the tasks described in each respective objective.

1. Develop an implementation/implementation plan

Given a network design plan, including current hardware and software, develop an implementation / installation plan documenting installation- specific requirements, required workstation hardware and software upgrades, and a site-specific tested installation method, including rollout plan.

a. Determine install method. b. Identify network characteristics (workstation, gateway, node, connections). c. Identify hardware and software prerequisites. d. Identify migration issues to Network (Enterprise Communications) Family. e. Validate (Test) installation method / familiarize. f. Schedule rollout of network software and hardware changes.

2. Install and configure OS/2 Software (Enterprise Communications) software

Given an installation plan, install and configure OS/2 Enterprise Communications software, to satisfy all of the predetermined application connectivity requirements.

a. Select LAN adapters and protocols. b. Select appropriate configuration options. c. Input required information.

3. Administer/manage Communications Server node

Given the need to administer a Communications Server node, access the Communications Server Administration options to determine communications status, to control links, sessions, and DLC, to gather diagnostic information for problem determination, and to verify communications.

a. Use SNA subsystem to control links, sessions, DLCs, and TPs. b. Use SNA subsystem to display and monitor the status of communications resources. c. Capture status information for problem determination.

4. Perform problem determination

Given an identified Communications Server problem, invoke problem solving techniques to resolve the problem within an acceptable time frame as predetermined by the organization.

a. Verify that the problem is Communications Server related. b. Gather information using product problem determination aids. c. Invoke support structure. d. Resolve/fix the problem and gain user verification that the problem is resolved.

5. Contact appropriate resources

Given the need to resolve a problem or question, call on the appropriate resources to provide a solution or resolution within an acceptable time frame, as predetermined by the organization.

a. Contact appropriate resource.

6. Apply and test fix/update

Given a required Communications Server fix or update, apply the fix or update to achieve the targeted fix or code level, and verify via SYSLEVEL command.

a. Identify / verify applicability. b. Invoke backup process. c. Install fix or update. d. Verify.

7. Customize Personal Communications (PCOMM) client

Given the need to alter characteristics of individual workstations using Personal Communications, customize the client to meet all predetermined requirements.

a. Determine emulator connection requirements (connection, host adapter). b. Alter session "view" by individual requirements (color, size, number of sessions, font, etc.).

== Education and Publications Courses and publications are offered to help you prepare for the certification tests. The courses are recommended, but not required, before taking a certification test.
