Using OS/2 Version 2.1 Applets Under OS/2 Warp
V21APP.DOC - Using OS/2 Version 2.1 applets under OS/2 Warp

If you have been using the productivity applets under OS/2 2.1 and are upgrading to OS/2 Warp 3, use the following procedure to run the 2.1 applets under Warp 3.
Currently (December 1994) only Warp without Win-OS2 is available. If you are installing Warp on a system which has OS/2 2.x (with Win-OS2) installed, you can either:
- Install Warp in another, clean partition.
or - Clean off the OS/2 2.x partition and install Warp there. In this case, you will need to save the following files:
\OS2\APPS\* \OS2\APPS\DLL\* \OS2\PMDIARY.INI \OS2\HELP\JIGSAW.HLP \OS2\HELP\NEKO.HLP \OS2\HELP\PMCHART.HLP \OS2\HELP\PMDIARY.HLP \OS2\HELP\REVERSI.HLP \OS2\HELP\SCRAMBLE.HLP \OS2\HELP\SOFTERM.HLP
- The remainder of this procedure assumes you will have installed Warp 3 in a partition separate from the OS/2 2.x partition. The following drive letters are used:
D: - OS/2 2.x E: - OS/2 Warp 3
If you are installing OS/2 Warp 3 without Win-OS2 over OS/2 for Windows or OS/2 Warp 3 with Win-OS2 (when it's available) over OS/2 2.1 or 2.11, some of the CONFIG.SYS changes will be unnecessary since only one drive letter is used for the old and new versions of the operating system.
Make the following changes to the CONFIG.SYS for OS/2 Warp 3:
add "D:\OS2\APPS\DLL;" to the end of the SET LIBPATH statement add "D:\OS2\APPS;" to the end of the SET PATH statement add "D:\OS2\APPS;" to the end of the SET DPATH statement add "D:\OS2\HELP;" to the end of the SET HELP statement
Change to the "E:\OS2\INSTALL" directory on the drive where OS/2 Warp 3 is installed. Append the accompanying file "OS2V21DB.TXT" to the end of the migration text file "DATABASE.TXT". Create the migration database file by executing the following command in the "E:\OS2\INSTALL" subdirectory:
PARSEDB DBTAGS.DAT DATABASE.TXT
Open the program "Add Programs" in the "System Setup" folder. Select the "Search for and select programs to add" radio button and click on the "OK" button. Deselect all drives except the one where OS/2 2.x was installed, deselect all but the "OS/2 programs" check box, and click on the "OK" button to search for the applications. Select or deselect the applications which were found as necessary and click on the OK button to add the programs to the "Productivity" and "Games" folders in the "OS/2 System" folder on the desktop.
Although I'm not quite sure why, I also found it necessary to copy the PMDIARY INI file from its normal location to the root directory of the OS/2 2.1 drive:
COPY D:\OS2\PMDIARY.INI D:\PMDIARY.INI
After executing this command, the applets running under OS/2 Warp recognized the settings which had been made under OS/2 2.x. For example, alarms which had been set under OS/2 2.x showed up in the Alarms applet under OS/2 Warp 3.
