Hi Dave,

This 3.16 version is working here... Realtek-ALC887-VD.

Thanks for confirming. Now to try and fix it more elegantly, then work out why 3.18.140 is trapping on all hda hardware (but seems ok on the one ac97 system I can test on)

Cheers,

Paul.

Bonjour to all,

"uniaud32-linux-3.16.85-20200814" works in a sense: it plays the startup sound in loop!
I reverted back to 2.02.06, since I needed to use my system.

{ uniaudio (until 2.02.06) seems to run out of resource after many days of system uptime. No more notification sounds. Short WAV files (less than 1sec or so) can't be used as system sounds, for example. I wondered if 3.16.85 worked better... }

See you !

Hi Renee,

Hey All,

Updated to 3.16.85 - http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.16.85-20200812.zip

More one sound interface tested:

Detected UNIAUD version 2.02.05
Detected 1 audio adapter(s)
Card info for adapter 0:
  num: 0
  id: ICH5
  driver: ICH4
  name: Intel ICH5
longname: Intel ICH5 with CMI9739 at irq 17
  mixer: C-Media Electronics CMI9739
  componenets: AC97a:434d4961

Tests were done with Package 20200506, uniaud32-linux-3.12.74, uniaud32-linux-3.14.79 and the last uniaud32-linux-3.16.85.
In all tests sound hardware is not identified by os/2 (ArcaOS 5.0.5), although uniaud32.sys is normally loading at boot.
Seems that are not any sound hardware. Applications like Klondike Solitaire, Mahjongg Solitaire, with sound enabled by default, show messages of "No device driver found" .

To know if was not an ALSA problem, I boot a live cd of linux Ubuntu 12.10 with ALSA version 1.0.24. All sound works as expected, without problems.

unimix -list resulted from uniaud32-linux-3.16.85 and pci.exe are attached.

An alsa log would be interesting.
copy alsahlp$ alsa-cmi9739.log

Hi, alsa-cmi9739log.txt is attached.

Can you please upload the output of 'copy alsahlp$ alsa.log' - from any uniaud32 version - I just want to see what chipset you're running.

Cheers,

Paul

This is likely the problem:
U16: Uniaud16 v1.9.7
OSS32_QueryDevCaps: SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_HW_REFINE error -22

OSS32_QueryDevCaps failed

Uniaud16 can't query the device capabilities for whatever reason.

Cheers,

Paul

uniaud32-linux-3.16.85-20200812.zip

Works well with a Creative SB Live! 5.1
PMUniMax has also filled out with many sliders including ones for Surround+center playback, Front, Line2, LiveDrive, Coaxial,  headphone, but I have not tested any of them, yet.

Listening to Gustav Holst - The Planets
Very nice, even for a deaf bloke.

Thanks for your continuing work on various OS/2 drivers and software.

(added: undated to uniaud32-linux-3.16.85-20200814.zip and all still working well)

3.8.140 is now working on my virtualised ArcaOS system, I haven't had time yet to try on bare metal.

http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.18.140-20200816.zip

Just some background information - the way they apply "quirks" or workarounds for different hardware started changing from 3.16.x onwards. Currently, I haven't implemented the newer quirks as it's a bit of work due to Watcom's lack of C99 support. As a result, there is some hardware that may work better in 3.14.x than in newer builds.

In the fullness of time, I'll fully implement the quirks in 3.18.x

As some more background, ALSA 1.0.24 (which is the basis of the Uniaud driver shipped with ArcaOS 5.0.5) was released on 31st Jan 2011. The Linux 3.18 kernel was released in December 2014, and 3.18.140 in May 2019 - so we've advanced a few years :)

Hi Paul, works on my X61 Thinkpad, sound is great. Still have the problem that the 2 buttons to control volume do not work, the button to mute volume works. Thanks again for your efforts

Well, I'm pleased to say that I just broke through a psychological barrier and built the code based on linux kernel 4.0.9

Build is at http://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-4.0.9-20200816.zip

The linux 4.0 kernel was released in April 2015, and 4.0.9 was released in July 2015.

Next step will be 4.1.52 - from a brief look - this one looks a bit more complex - there's been some code restructuring :/

Cheers,

Paul

 Hi Paul,

I was hoping to try out my new trap dump partition, but no such luck... both the 3.18 and 4.0 versions posted work fine here. Congratulations on moving into the 4.x versions... and thanks again!

Hi Paul

uniaud32-linux-3.16.85-20200814.zip (Release) works fine.

uniaud32-linux-4.0.9-20200816.zip (Release) causes system hang at boot when the startup sound should play.
