Hi Pete,

I just checked and he has an updated version on his site  http://altsan.org/os2/fixpaks/fixgraphics.html  you just have to look at what is there.

And here we see the advantage of WARPIN over RPM/YUM.  Sorry I don't like RPM, never did even when I encountered it 20 odd years ago and I admit I use linux Mint now in parallel with OS/2 (ArcaOS) because of Firefox because it doesn't use rpm/yum as a program loader.

Rant over and back to Pete's problem.  You need to get a copy of ARCVIEW-22 and its tools, it will allow you to get individual files from the various rpm packages and put them where you want them.  It is what I use when I can't find what I want as normal files.

Hardware / Re: Printer Suggestion for ArcaOS

I think that one is dead and before you buy it, unless you are using windows.  It looks as if it is designed for windows use only (the UFRII printer language tells you that).

Try looking at the Brother range of laser printers.  I have two, a HL-3170cdw and DCP-9020cdw, both have postscript emulation (BR-Script3), hence the use of the PSPRINT driver, do not require special drivers other than SLPR and both work over my local network.

Have you tried using DFSee to check the disk and, if necessary, prepare it for OS/2?

your problem is strange to me.  I use the free.fr server and never had any problems.
SMTP port is set to 25 for sending and I seem to remember having no service years ago when their units in the local exchange went down.  Since they went to fibre there has been no problems, I can even use it to access my yahoo account.

Hi Martin,

I have been using A OO 4.1.20 for OS/2 since 17-12-2015 without any problems.  Maybe some files and dates have been mixed up.

Thank you gentlemen, I have tried what you suggest but see no improvement so I will use my Linux computer to see if there might be a solution there.

Do we have a way/program that will wipe a hard disk back to 'as new' state?

I ask because since my computer  was messed up by friends trying to use windows on it, I am unable to run many of the programs I used to, it will lock up for no known reason, programs that I used every day no longer start.  I used to have an up time of several weeks now I am lucky to get a day.  I can't afford to get a  new multi TB disk, my pension doesn't allow that kind of expenditure (in the summer not a big problem but with the temp down to 4 C not an option.

I have used PMMail since it became available and see no reason to change.  I think a lot depends on what you want to do with e-mail, it is NOT a substitute for a web page although a lot of people have been conned into thinking it is judging by the amount of garbage I get from friends.

Applications / Re: QT4 Problem - CoolReader 3
« on: January 02, 2025, 01:57:33 am »
Hi Martin,

Thanks for trying to help.  I have discovered that it is only on this my main computer that CoolReader 3 doesn't work - it works on all my other computers.  I have a nasty feeling that windows left behind something nasty since my windows using friend has admitted what she was looking for turned out to be a con.

I think I will get a new hard disk and reinstall everything from my backup NAS which uses a linux disk format.  Maybe I can reduce the number of disks in the computer by using larger capacity ones.

Hi Mentore,

Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried all that and everything is there where it should be - it does in fact load but not display and I have to kill it to remove it.  The annoying thing is that it worked  without problems for 13 years but it took someone playing with windows to mess it up.

Applications / QT4 Problem - CoolReader 3
« on: December 30, 2024, 11:18:38 pm »
Since there has been a lot of traffic about QT on here I might as well add my problem.  Some time ago I had my computer messed up by friends trying to load windows programs on it.  I have almost got it back to what it was except for CoolReader 3 which requires QT4 runtime which I have.  Unfortunately, although it loads nothing is shown on the screen and since this is the program that displays all my e-books I am at a loss when I  want to relax with a good story.

Any advice that helps me get CoolReader3 back up and running will be very much appreciated.

Hi Igor,

What are you using that requires a com port?  I haven't used one for the last 10 years so am interested in your usage.
