I've been running OS/2 since it was 2.0 and have never had any problems installing it til today.  I'm am upgrading my scsci drives. After much tinkering with the preboot menu I finally got to the registration part and it won't accept the key after I type it in.  The key that I got from Mensys is a pdf file attached to the e-mail.  I am assuming that the user name is a 20 charactors  long with a hyphen and the regkey are the rest of the numbers that follow. The key is for ver 2.0 but should work with 2.1 right?  So what am I doing wrong? I typed in all caps'.

thanks
Marc

There's no CD key for OS/2 2.0 or 2.1 - are you referring to eCS v2.0 and v2.1? The key you enter should look like this:

Type it in exactly such as this:

M.........-X....................

5............. (next field) Q...............
etc...

no brackets or such. Failing that working, I'd contact Mensys for help. Using the saved reg file didnt work for me for eCS v2.1 - I had to type it in.

I typed it in just as you said to do and no go.  Must be a bum number.

Hi

What with all this *typing* in the Reg Key???  :-)  - save the file to a drive that will be accessible during installation, floppy hard drive, usb drive then simply point the installer to the file when asked.

I've never seen an eCS Reg Key supplied in PDF format... Are you sure it is the Reg Key?

You can also login to your Mensys account and retrieve your Reg Key from the Downloads section. Hopefully that will be in plain text which the eCS Installer will understand - Come to think of it, you could also retrieve your Reg Key by logging in at ecomstation.com and clicking the eComStation Registration Keys link.

I did see another post in the ecs newsgroups about the Reg Key not being accepted when it was typed in and wonder if the installer has a bug. If I spot that post again I'll copy it to this thread...

Aha! Found it, but it is when installing eCS in VirtualBox - however that should not really make a difference.

"I am trying to install ECS2.1 in Virtualbox.

I get to the point where it asks for my reg key and I have tried inserting that from a CD (I dont have a floppy drive) and also by typing it in.

When I try from CD the install says invalid key; when I type it in the next button stays greyed out, so I guess it does not like it.

What's the recipe please?"

There were a few suggestions but manually typing did *not* work. The op finished the thread with this:-

"I installed a virtual floppy creator and connected the virtual machine
to it (seems to need to be done on a new image) and BINGO!!!

(But why did it not take the manually typed key? - perhaps leave that
... )"

Very suggestive of something going wrong when typing in the Reg Key.

Pete,
Tried the E-com keys website and it looks like I have a bum key.  Sent an e-mail to Mensys to get a new one. Thanks for all the help.

Hi Marc

1) Go to http://www.mensys.nl/ (Switch its language to English)
2) Click on "Log in"
3) Log on with your user and password.
3) Click on "Serial Numbers"
4) You may see a list with the serial number for eComStation 2.0

Can you check if it is the same that you have in your PDF?

I e-mailed Mensys and they were nice enough to send a text file with the registration code in it.  Now I should be able to use the "import" button and problem should be solved.
One other question I have.  I have the last GA version of Snap, (Newer than the IBM OEM). Would I be better to use it than the panorama drivers or is everyone happy with the panorama drivers.

Pete

Hi marcbryant

SNAP would be better if it supports your graphics card as you would then be using an accelerated driver.

However, depending on the monitor in use you may find you need to use Panorama during the install but select SNAP as the driver to install.

I say this because a couple of weeks ago I needed to install eCS2.1 to a system using a widescreen monitor. Using SNAP during the install failed as whatever the SNAP resolution is set to for the install produced a "Resolution not supported" message on the monitor.

I got around this by using Panorama during the install but selected SNAP as the driver to install and configure because I knew that I would be able to add the necessary mode to SNAP once the system was booted to a VGA Desktop using the gamode utility supplied with SNAP eg:-
gamode add <xres> <yres> <bits> to add the mode - I used gamode add 1360 768 32
gamode addref <xres> <yres> <refresh> to set the Refresh rate for that mode - I used gamode addref 1360 768 75

Once the mode had been added I selected it on the Screen page of the System object and, after a reboot, it was working fine.

Also, if you have a widescreen monitor then you need to check that the Panorama Widescreen activator supports your graphics card. Panorama does not have widescreen support for the ATI X300 in the system I was installing to whereas, as mentioned above, it is possible to add the required widescreen mode to SNAP for that graphics card.

IBManners

Hi,

As Pete said, I would use the last GA version of Snap over the shortform version. And certainly use SNAP
over Panorama UNLESS you are using a modern chipset that is not supported by SNAP as Panorama is a lot
faster than SNAP VESA modes.

So the short answer is, depends on your card :)
