Would be really fun to try those games. I'm not a gamer but I once had the DOS game Bureau 13 (still have diskettes but one is defect) and liked it  quite a lot. For a year ago I wrote some site connected to the Hopkins FBI to see if there were any possibility to buy it, but they didn't answer (well didn't really expect it either).

Thanks BWG. The video was cool to see! When it comes to download I've found several sites that have B13 on there lists, but it is always this issue:

"This game is under protection of ESA (entertainment software association).
You can find more info about the ESA and their work at www.theesa.com.
A list of all companies that have their copyrights protected by the ESA can be found here.
Please contact the publisher of this game directly to find out how to purchase or download it."

I could contact them, but haven't yet.

Hi All,

Just quickly b4 power gets cut here again in SA... I too have Avarice preview but from what I remember was not very playable. Please could someone give me a suggestion as to where I could start uploading the files. Hopkins is approx 493MB in size, perhaps I should also try zip it with 7-Zip to make it smaller. Not sure how that would affect the ISO file tho.

Cheers,

John.

I sent a mail to Kim to hear if it could be uploaded on OS2world.

This  site  is  supposed  to  be  the  world's  biggest  abandonware  site :

         www.vetusware.com

You  could  possibly  upload  the  Iso  images  of  the  games  onto  this  site  although  you  may  need  to  do  the  upload  overnight  as  the  bandwith  may  be  a  limitation .

Regards

Hi Paul555,

Had a look at http://www.vetusware.com/ ,and found SimCity2000 listed there by the way. Tried to submit my now 7Zipped copy of Hopkins there with no luck. It appears that there may be necessary for people to request a software in order for someone to contribute the software. I've used the contact form to email the owner of the site for details on how to upload software. I've tested my copy and all seems good now sitting at 206MB file size. With regard to hobbes, do you perhaps know what their upload policy is and also for interest what is best software to use for uploading files esp in WinXP environment as my OS/2 box is only a P1 at 200MHz and much slower at downloading and have not as yet successfully installed it on newer hardware box.

Finally, I would like feedback as to whether people here would find my suggestion of uploading certain software to a common site as welcome. Maybe we should vote what software is to be considered abandonware first before I just go ahead.

Much thanks,

John.

Hi  John ,

The  Simcity  2000  on  Vetusware  is  the  Dos  version  and  Not  the  native  OS/2  version. Not  sure  about  the  uploading  process  as  I  have  not  uploaded  any  software  to  this  site  as  of  today . If  OS/2  World  has  the  space  and  bandwidth , that  would  be  the  best  place  for  the  OS/2  games  to  be  retired  to.

Hopkins FBI - Check on ebay there was a guy in the USA who had versions for BEOS and OS/2 for sale.  I got the OS/2 version sometime last year pretty cheap.

I also have Simcity 2000 for OS/2, Simcity for OS/2 with the original box - sold by Dux software.  I also have the beta for Simtown for OS/2.  I would love to get my hands on a final Simtown or Widget Workshop for OS/2.  Anyone have a copy I would be happy to swap.

I have boxed sets of most of the older simcity games they are $5 a piece with s&h inc. Sorry I cannot copy as ISO files for anyone its worth it to some olde timers just 2b able to stare at the box, graphx are still kinda cute, ya know? BTW, vetusware is so often down due to maint. its not even worth the hit or miss. MZ

You should consider sharing rather than charging money.  I am happy to swap an electronic version of something I have  for simtown or widget workshop - final versions not Betas.

My rare Os/2 software collection is:

Borland Sidekick for OS/2 PM
Word 1.1 for PM
Excel 2.0 and 3.0 for PM
OS/2 ver 1
Os/2 1.1
Os/2 1.2
Lotus Freelance 1 for PM
Lotus 123 ver 3.0 for Os/2
Multiplan for OS/2
Corel  Draw 2.5
Wordperfect 5.2
Hopkins FBI
Avarice
Entrepreneur

consider this, I am not trying to scam anyone nor do I proliferate illegal copies of software which is copyright and supposedly protected under law here, this is a law abiding group here, right"?" - granted making iso files of old forgotten dos stuff is perhaps not an infringement, who am I to say it is or not, however my better judgement tells me that if you have something legit to sell on a market place area on any given forum for almost nothin, then I SAY offer it, no one is forcing ya to buy...as...I am not charging money, just passing these along to give them a new home, shipping and handling notwithstanding.

OS2 internals can become the basis for virtualization fundementals on the new internet, VIZ when you turn on your browser, it is the OS and of course it will be open source as will be the firmware/hardware...emmmmmmmmmm cant wait...any one heard of the new internet? Granted it wont be full of piracy...

green is good azure blue is better! MZ

Widget Workshop: The Mad Scientist's Laboratory is not on my list, nor did i know it was for OS/2. OS/2 has a more limited/specialized following now but it is great the games are still around for us kids that refuse to grow up. Just think about this: NO XBOX 360 to plug into. Speaking of plugin in I have IBM Home Director for sale, its a plug and go network using the home AC outlets, comes with CD but I do think that it was not marketed for OS/2, this is the WIN95 version in IBM original Blue retail box. PM for more details on this offering...offered up until it gets taken to swap shop-or eapage.com. I cant deal with ebay, its gotten too big for its britches...or so I am told by many other members... :( thx

No xbox? Horrible world that would be. Stuck with crap like the Wii or the PS3 which only has JRGPs which are also crap. I miss my Dreamcast though..

Ya dreamcast! Art Bell is defunct too. It was fairytales for the adult imagination, just like Casini should be. ::) I grew out of space travel when I left the military, saw some things no one would ever believe, nor should see...too bizarre for a sane "ordered" world so we'll just say I have had enough of this place..puff...pooh...puff and "they" were
gone...

ebay is full of dreamcast stuff, Sega's last Video Game Console effort...so IBM SHow has to "pick - off" as much as it
can while its still avail. for the archives...have tons of games, even cartridges for the PC Jr, TI and many others stored away so that we can rotate the stock show for the kids...they are a trip, they like the old junk as much as the new, anything that moves, even pacman!
@the virge of vintage vinyl replacements anything goes, http://search.ebay.com/Sega-Dreamcast-System_W0QQfsopZ32
...and when you are talkin warp well it goes way out there too sometimes...i did the Sega-Dreamcast search on ebay - rec'd hundreds of "hits" [listings] like -0- http://cgi.ebay.com/CLEAR-BLUE-SEGA-DREAMCAST-SYSTEM-w-GAMES-ACCESSORIES_W0QQitemZ280260128089QQihZ018QQcategoryZ139971QQssPageName
ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItems but when I do a search for "OS/2" or "OS/2 Warp" or "OS/2 Warp Server V4" nothin comes up -0- 'guess since eCS was released there has been a waning interest in vintage computing with OS/2... hey my man its a weird and changing world somewhere out there...checked again today and found:  http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-OS-2-OS2-WARP-VERSION-3-BONUS-PAK-OS-2-NEW-SEALED_W0QQitemZ11028 4463962QQihZ001QQcategoryZ4619QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
one item, all this guys auctions/BIN are "payputz" required which is a no no, I cant count how many times people have received their goods, liked it, used it, would not return same, and then reversed their payment on paypal, like i said itsa weird world... ;) ...speaking of a 'horrible world' SAB, freedom is not free and freedom of speech is well no longer allowed, unless you are of a certain group, when we became politically corrected bak in the 60's we ventured toward the distinction of the underclass kept down by the overclass, where skin color became a political power grab ideal as we all marched happily along hippies turning into insurance salesmen and precinct captains handing out the slogans with the mantras of devolution...
