Looks amazing.

Question: Is WPS Wizard going to be integrated into eCS 2.0? I think the affect that this could have on the user interface - especially if a good number of these great themes were included - could be profound.

Maybe eSchemes could also be included - with the user being given then choice during install as to which engine they would like?

Just my 2c worth....

Hi Moby

It seems to be a case of different systems have different results with the above wps enhancers. Both are very capable of causing problems once installed on this system ranging from restarting the wps simply because a folder got opened to crashing the system completely.

As neither work on my system I would not like to see either included - until such time as they do work.

As usual, the icons are nice, but the problem remains the same as always;

      utilization.

You have to have WPSWizard installed to use them.

I've installed WPSWizard, many, many times over the years and David's new icon sets have inspired me to try WPSWizard once again... twice again... and then a few more times.

However, the result is always the same; WPS instability primarily, and basic, unwanted, unfixable, changes generally. And while you get some, (many), nice, new, icons the basic ones go to crap without any easy means of changing them.

Result?

Always, I have to uninstall WPSWizard and restore, (archive, Unimaint, whatever).

Now, I know that there has been some renewed interest in WPSWizard development, but it still has a way to go before I can use it on a machine that serves a function.

That's really too bad, as I like the new icon sets.  :-\

Hi Ben

My experience is just the opposite.  I have WPS Wizard installed on both an eCS RC4 and an eCS RC2 partition.  I see no degradation.  Otherwise I would not be able to create my many themes.

This situation reminds me of Chris's multimedia classes.  People blamed his classes for destablization of their systems.  Thus, development stopped.  It doesn't matter that eCS comes with the classes built in and no one complains.

Are there issues?  I am sure there are.  I have come to the conclusion some issues are hardware related.  I believe SMP may be one of the problems.  Another may be video drivers.  I don't have an SMP machine.  I also think WPS enhancers such as Object Desktop may cause problems.  However, these are all guesses.

I also see you don't know how to change the default icons to something nice. It has to be done a certain way.  You just cannot drag and drop from the desktop.  Only from a certain class folder (CWThemeTransient) can icons be dragged and dropped.  To open this class folder to change the default icon to a PNG, one needs to do the following:

Right click on the program object.
Find the ICON tab and select it.
Select Browse.
Let the opened window populate with the icons listed and found in the theme ini file. This may take a while depending on the speed of the machine.
Find an icon you like and drag it from the opened window onto the CURRENT ICON.
Now the program object has a nice icon.

I must admit I have not been concerned about keeping all the icons found in the themes listed in the ini file.  This would take a massive amount of work.  However, there are enough found that one should be able to find something he or she likes.

The trashcan cannot be replaced.  This is DUE to the way the trashcan is coded.  I sure wish this was changed.  However, I don't see it happening unless someone steps forward and submits the code changes to Paul.  Even then, it may not happen.

System objects used for cmd files cannot be replaced by WPS Wizard.  This appears to be more a problem with the way the WPS works.

Changing the icon of the trashcan does work, sort of.
If you open the "Icon" page in the properties notebook you'll see a button called "Details". It reveals that the trashcan's object ID is "<XWP_TRASHCAN>". WPS Wizard can assign one or more icons to WPS objects. I simply created a new entry in my theme's INI file called "<XWP_TRASHCAN>" and "<XWP_TRASHCAN>_Open" and assigned an icon. It works. The only problem is that it doesn't change its Icon if it's full. I assigned the "full" icon to the _Open entry so the "full" icon is displayed if I open any view of the trashcan. Also, everytime I open it I get some kind of Rexx error in WPS Wizard, but it continues to run. So it seems that it's not impossible to fix it so it behaves the way we expect it to behave. Maybe it even works already using an entry with another postfix (?) (if the postfix isn't a WPS Wizard specific thing)

greetings,
Robin

Well, I had a nice reply all done up, but FireFox ate it.

Usually I can salvage it via the Clipview, but this time something went awry.

Just assume I said something witty and clever, articulate and appropriate and I'll assume that you replied in like. 8)

But to summarize, I don't agree with your comparisons or the rationale for it, but all this has been done to death on WPSWizard and Chris' wonderful MMPM extensions and I have no intentions of reopening the wounds.

However, in retaliation, I feel compelled to sharply criticize your icon sets instead of singing my usual high praises.

Aha!

In this icon set kde-crystal-diamond-lime-example, the icon in the main window that is in the second row, two columns to the right, the pixels in the block defined by coordinates 24x14 by 26x16, are three shades brighter than they are supposed to be!

So there!  >:(

NOW, what have you got to say?

"Crap?"

Crap!!

How dare you call my thinly disguised, (yet humorous), compliment to David "crap?"

You, sirah, are a drinker of warm, American beer!

For those of you running into issues with WPSWizard...

I too couldnt get it to install properly the first few times.

Eventually I got it to install, but trying to open a folder would lock the system hard. So I uninstalled it from commandline.

Then... I restored an earlier archive (which had an older version installed) I ran CleanINI /c and restarted the WPS... and suddenly, the older version seems to be working properly - unlike what it had been doing before-hand...

I've found (and suspected here) that a broken WPS can get far more broken when introducing more classes into it... not a problem with WPSW... a problem with trying to update broken things...

It's kinda like changing the oil in a car that has an engine leak... right thing to do - at the wrong time... I've found that often because the new oil isnt as gunky, it runs right out that leak a lot quicker than occassionally topping it off and letting it "gunk-up" - not the best example, but you get the point (I hope).

So, now things are working properly and I am ready to try a proper uninstall of WPSW 0.5.2 and proper install of 0.6

Hi Ben

You are probably right.  It is a poor comparison.  I can't tell you why I have no problems and others do.  I would like to see everyone enjoy the themes as I have.

You know David... now that I fixed my damn INI file and have WPSW installed properly, I'd LOVE to enjoy the themes you have created...

BUT I CAN'T!!!!!!!! AND IT IS YOUR FAULT!!!!

I cannot friggin decide which one I want to use!!!!!! I've narrowed my list down to about 8 possible choices though... so I am getting there...

;)  :)  ;)  :)  ;)  :)  ;)  :)  ;D  :o  8)

Much thanks to you and Chris!!!

Oh, Saijin, I had the same problem you did with the WPS locking up when I opened the folder with the PNGs in it... rebooted and it booted fine though (only difference)... then I opened PMView and had it thumbnail all the PNGs and tried opening the folder... all went well after that.

I suspect the issue is something in the PNG handling... I think I have the latest PNGIO installed - maybe I shouldn't? (Or maybe I only think I do, but need to upgrade it?) - (or maybe GBM is conflicting with it?)

Anyone have any ideas, that would be great. As of right now, from what I have seen, I suspect the issue is in attempting to iconify large PNG files....

Other than that, the only other thing I noticed was that Styler/2's "Shadow Icon" overlay does not work... but I can live with that...

Thanks,
-Rob

Yeah, I'm not sure. I think I had newer image IOPROCS from the eSchemes package (Imagination), but thats all. I never thought that would be worse than the included IOPROCS. I may give it another shot on my current install after I do some runs of CleanINI/CheckINI. PNG Icons are pretty nice, though a biotch to see on the eCenter :(

People may not realize this about the themes I have done.  I have made it easy for anyone to improve upon the themes. The latest themes share a common ini file.  For example, if you modify the the ini file for the KDE Crystal Diamond Blue theme, you can copy the ini file to the other Crystal themes and the change is applied to them as well.  This is true for the latest Ace, Buff, Snowish, and Dark Glass themes.  With the Snowish themes, this does NOT apply to the standing blue and brown themes. These two were individually done.  The Noia themes have their own individual ini files also.

I was able to do this by creating a themefolder.  Folder icons for the themes are located in it.  The folder icons for these themes are called folder.png and folder_open.png.  The ini file looks to the themefolder for the folder icons.  You can create you own themes by just replacing the folders with ones you have created or modied.

Any modified and new icons I put in the "misc" folder.  Create or modified you own icon, just put it in the misc and edit the application name in the ini file to point the the "misc\newicon.png.  Then copy the misc folder and the wpswiz-theme.ini to the other themes in that group.  I have already made a few changes to my KDE Crystal Diamond themes.  I modified my brown theme and just copied the ini and misc folders to the other colors in that theme.
