Hi all.

I have a ten year old computer in which the video card has gone out. I know this to be true since I can swap them and the computer works.

The video cards I have inquired about don't say they will work they will work with OS2 on the older system. The only card info I have is the old one says ELSA with a EPROM labeled ELSA Winner 2000 AVI. It uses the S3 video chips. It is a PCI half slot card.

Anyone have any ideas where I might find a video card for this computer?

Tim

I did a search of the internet and this site came up.

Try to locate older Matrox cards and this should work without any problem with native old drivers also think that it should be possible to stumble over some old ATI Mach cards that should work as well really great.

Thank you both. I did go to the website mentioned and there was exactly what I needed so I sent an email to him.

Good find!!, I had looked for a couple of hours and came up with nothing.

If that doesn't work out I will look for an older Matrox card.

Thanks again!!

Hi

I use a GeForce 6200 AGP video card on my dual boot system (Warp 3 + Warp 4). Once you have installed OS/2 Warp v3 using the standard VGA driver, you will want to apply the last available FixPak. Once the FixPak is installed, grab the SciTech Software, courtesy IBM, on the Hobbes web site. I am using SDD not VBE and it works pretty good. Best of luck.

As to the "old video cards". IMO, the best solution for OS/2 was Riva TNT2 Ultra. There was a native OS/2 driver for it, perhaps, you can download it from somewhere even now. The card run like hell, perhaps even better than most of "new video cards". Disadvantages from the contemporary point of view: PCI and only 32 MB of video memory. The OS/2 driver was GRADD, therefore, FP at least 5 for W4, FP "much" for W3.

I wouldn't mine trying to get my GEforce 6200 to work with OS2. However I am not that good with config.sys files. Below is what I think is the relative section of the config.sys file. Can anyone tell my from this which is the driver for the old video card? and then what driver should be installed for the GEforce 6200 from the CD?

SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_SVGA
SET VIO_SVGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA,BVHSVGA)
DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,C:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP
DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS

Thanks for the responses

Tim,

Looks like VGA to me. Plug in that 6200 and use the VGA driver. You should be able to get SciTech driver here:

Be warned, you need to have your OS/2 Warp system patched to a supported FixPak level. Best of luck.
