Just waiting for eCS to have all the features................

Hi

On my system all ACPI text documents are in \ecs\doc\acpi - but I installed ACPI after installing eCS2.0RC5.

I think installing ACPI while installing RC5 will put the docs in the same place.

Have you tried searching the drive for ACPI-Hard*.doc?

Regards

Pete

Actually, I thought it was going to be posted on the web  ;)

I am having problems with ACPI, I have not used OS\2 since early 2000, I never installed it on a machine that only has USB ports for mouse and keyboard. I am not able to get mouse and keyboard support. There is no info or very vague info on installing ACPI. So I am waiting for tech support to help me. They have not been any real help. I have 1.2R and 2.0 RC5 installed and ready to go. All I got out of my purchase was a glorified screen shot of 1.2R and 2.0 RC5. I have it installed, and I get to boot to the WPS, but I can not do a thing with an input device, other then power the system down and boot back to winblows. I had better get some help soon, or there will be one less OS\2 user out there again.

Hi there,
as Pete points out you have docs in the ecs\docs\acpi\  map. There is quite a lot of documents, and installation instruction is in acpi.doc, quite clear I think. Checking hardware *.doc is a good idea and also check ecomstation.ru on hardware section, for your computer, there are known problems with some. ACPI for eCS is still under developement, though coming a far way.  eCS RC6 will be a ACPI-release if I got it right. And don't give things up to fast.

Hello rdonnelly,

But you could install eCS with USB mouse and keyboard?
Hmmm, if so, then it may be something else that cause you the problems, my guess from what you say is some kind of IRQ conflict.

With USB only ports (no PS/2 at all and no adapters) then the problem is that you can't press Alt+F1 (at least I couldn't/can't) at bootup as USB ain't loaded at that point.

Your option then is to boot to the installation CD and try to disable (REM) out drivers in config.sys that's suggested in the documentation mentioned by others.

I'd personally try in this order:
Sound
Network
...

Btw, have you switched to the SMP kernel? If so, you shouldn't add the /ACPI /SMP switches unless you want to try that it work or know that it does. You can however use the SMP kernel on a 1 processor system.

rdonnelly,

Your problem has been bugging me since I first saw it in another thread, so much so that I invited myself to some friends over the weekend.  Said friends have a Dell 3100/E310.
Said computer had for a time WSeB CP2 on it as I don't have eCS and will not pay to be a beta tester for the bells and whistles that are not OS/2.

Now on to your problem.

First.  WSeB does not have ACPI.
Second. I had no problems with the USB keyboard and mouse (Neither did the SUSE linux 11 that I installed for them, which was the real reasion for my visit)
Third.  I have looked at the manual for the 3100/E310 - there does not appear to be anything that would stop you installing OS/2 eCS (processor is standard Pentium 4, SATA drive is covered by Dani's driver).
Forth.  My install CD for WSeB has a few hacks to allow it to install on 64 bit processor machines and is as up to date as I can make it.  Which means that you should have the updates, if not the hacks, with eCS.

Possible things for you to try.

1) Boot from the Cd and go to the command line.  Start tedit and edit the config.sys - rem out the ACPI driver and anything associated with it.  Check the USB section and see if the USBEHCD is after the three USBUHCD drivers (on all my computers the EHCD is after the others).
2) Reboot without the CD and see what happens.
3) If that doesn't work, do as jep suggests and rem out the sound driver and then network.
4) Report here so we can move on.

rdonnelly

Ivan, you got it right!!  ;D

I moved USBEHCD below the USBUHCD statements and I now have mouse and KB in eCS 1.2. At first I only had keyboard, I had to add a fifth line of USBUHCD, in order to get mouse support. The 1.2R does not have any line in config.sys for ACPI drivers. So I am finally here, OS2 World from an OS2 computer. It seems like the support and native OS2 apps may be more probable then they were in the 90's thanks to IBM stepping out of the OS2 picture.

Thanks for all your help Guys.

Details:
We have had a few other reports with eCS 1.2R but not been able to trace what is going on. Remove USBRESMG.SYS from your config.sys and reboot.

What kind of driver is this? I my cordless mouse quits every once in a while, I can pug in a wired mouse and continue on. The wireless mouse does not come back unless I reboot. I doubt this could help that?
